The ZWO ASI678MC utilizes Sony's newest IMX678 color sensor for outstanding planetary, solar, and lunar imaging. This 4K, color in one shot camera boasts high dynamic range and low readout noise, along with a large full well capacity.
ZWO ASI678MC 4K Color Planetary Camera
The back-illuminated sensor used in the ASI678MC camera allows for extremely low readout noise and ultra-high sensitivity. It achieves this by moving the structural matrix of wiring from the front of the SMOS sensor to the back. This results in significantly more light landing on the photodiode substrate, allowing you to capture excellent images with less light exposure. Upgrading to this camera is like upgrading to a faster OTA!
Upgraded with STARVIS 2 Technology
ZWO's STARVIS 2 technology removes all amp glow from the ASI678MC, and lowers readout noise for higher sensitivity. A large reduction in dark current noise results in significantly improved near infrared performance as well. When compared with its ASI178MC predecessor, the new ASI678MC is an upgrade across the board, with better performance in all important categories.

Zero Amplifier Glow
The ASI678MC was designed to remove all amp glow from captures at the hardware level, regardless of exposure length or gain settings. You'll have the flexibility to customize exposure length without the worry of introducing amp glow and losing detail in parts of your images.
300s Exposure on ASI678MC Showing Zero Amplifier Glow
The addition of a built-in HCG mode has allowed a marked reduction in readout noise at high gain levels, allowing a fixed dynamic range across a wide sensitivity. As you can see in the chart below, once the gain is set at 80 or above, the HGC mode is activated and readout noise is reduced to 1.0e or less with 12bits of data.
ASI678MC Quantum Efficiency & Dark Current
Close attention was paid to the quantum efficiency curve in order to optimize performance. The result is an improved signal-to-noise ratio due to a reduction in readout noise. Similarly, ZWO worked hard to keep dark current noise at a minimum, achieving significant reductions when compared to the ASI678MC's predecessor, especially at higher sensor temperatures.
Connection Method
Connection Options
The ASI678MC camera comes with a 1/4" screw hole for mounting on traditional tripods. Connect the camera to your mount via the ST4 port (ST4 cable included) and use the USB 3.0 port (USB 3.0 cable included) to connect to your computer.
