PlaneWave L-500 Direct Drive MountPlaneWave is proud to present the L-500 Direct Drive Mount, a new and impressive single fork arm mount ideal for use with PlaneWave's high end telescopes. The L-500 is a great option for any astronomer looking to get the absolute most out of a PlaneWave CDK ranging from 17 to 20-inch aperture, with a solid 200-pounds of weight capacity and full capability of tracking in Alt-Az, Alt-Alt, and Equatorial modes. This mount doesn't stop excelling once you get past the sheer versatility either, boasting a configurable slewing speed and acceleration, with the speed ranging from 15 to 50 degrees per second, and the acceleration ranging from 20 to 60 degrees per second. It slews with not only great speed, but a remarkable smoothness and grace that keeps your view steady as it slews about.
The L500 Direct Drive mount is constructed from high quality stainless steel welded together into a smooth and tough whole. The dual axis motors used in this direct drive mount have been designed and manufactured entirely by PlaneWave, ensuring the utmost level of not only quality control, but compatibility with the rest of the mount. The On-Axis encoders that are used for this mount are included with the mount itself, and are capable of 18 million counts at .072 arc seconds per tick. When it all comes together, the result is a superb quality fork mount that is utterly free of backlash and periodic error while also boasting near silent motion at top speed.
The required power to operate the L500 direct drive mount is 120V AC at 15Amps, and all of the cabling is internal. You can run cables through the mount, and in doing so avoid much of the hassle that used to be inherent to high level motorized and electronic mounts.
