    Meade 9mm Plossl Illuminated Reticle Eyepiece - Wireless - 1.25"

    Series 4 Plossl 9mm Illuminated Reticle Eyepiece... The most advanced commercially-available illuminated reticle eyepiece, this Series 4 Plossl 9mm model includes micrometric x-y positioning controls which greatly facilitate locking onto the guide star. Turn the finely-threaded controls and place the reticle's crossline pattern precisely at the desired position in the field.

    The sharp, high-power imaging of the 4-element, multi-coated Plossl optical system is complemented by a rubber eyecup (foldable for eyeglass wearers) that shuts out distracting stray light from the observer's eye. The upper (lens) section of the eyepiece rotates on a fine thread for precise diopter adjustment to the user's eye. Reticle pattern is a double crossline with two concentric circles.

    The Series 4 Plossl 9mm Wireless Illuminated Reticle Eyepiece includes a red LED illuminator, operated from internal batteries, with variable brightness control. Batteries are included with each eyepiece.

    • There are two adjustment screws that alter the position of the cross wires. On the opposite side of the barrel from these each of these 2 two adjustment screws are a further 2 screws - what is their purpose?

      The purpose of the two screws that are opposite the adjustment screws are to house the springs that put pressure on the reticle against the other two adjustment screws so that the reticle stays in the last configuration that it was adjusted to.

    • What type of batteries? What orientation?

      The illuminator uses a pair of LR44 type batteries. They should be oriented such that the negative terminals point toward the spring in the illuminator's battery compartment.

    • Why are these adjustment screws needed ... are the crosshairs not necessarily in the exact centre of the eyepiece?

      This eyepiece was designed back when manual guiding was more common, so the crosshairs were designed to allow selection of a star to guide on that was not necessarily in the center of the guide scope's field of view. As the crosshairs are adjustable, the
