Technical Innovations Pro Dome 15' Observatory - Door in Base Ring

Technical Innovations Pro Dome 15' Observatory

The Technical Innovations Home Dome 15' Observatory is a complete fifteen foot diameter fiberglass observatory designed for institutional, or group uses or to meet special observing needs. Designed for stand-alone use with additional wall rings and with special locking mechanisms. Comes with a 12" high base ring with reverse flange, with or without molded semi-door section. Also includes PD15 electric shutter system, PD15 rotation motor system (4 motor assemblies), and heavy duty power supply. Center height of dome plus base ring is 8' 6".

Step inside the Technical Innovations Pro Dome 15' Observatory and let's learn more...

The Technical Innovations Pro Dome 15' Observatory will accommodate all but the very largest amateur and professional telescopes with associated equipment, and provides room for group use of the observatory. The fifteen foot professional observatory dome uses the same proven design as the PD-l0 observatory and is also normally installed on a concrete pad or wooden deck. A unique feature of the Technical Innovations Pro Dome 15' Observatory is the 36" wide semi-door entrance which meets requirements for access by disabled persons.

The Technical Innovations 15' professional observatory dome is made of four quadrants, bolted together along internal flanges. The slot opening is 50" wide, with 24" available past the zenith. The shutter is an up-and-over, two piece, automatic latching system. The shutters nest on the rear of the dome when opened. The PD-15 includes an electric shutter and electric dome rotation system, with power supply. The dome sits on a 12" high base ring, and wall height of the PD-15 can be increased by adding matching 12" high wall rings. Each ring includes a molded door section.

The Technical Innovations Pro Dome 15' Observatory can be installed at ground level on its own foundation, or can be mounted on a roof-top, tower, or other structure. The dome turns on 48 ball-bearing rollers mounted in the 12" high base ring. The standard Technical Innovations Pro Dome 15' Observatory will meet all but the most stringent code requirements. Where needed, minor modifications can be made to meet special requirements. The base ring bottom flange (4" wide) will be bolted to your foundation. Assembly time required: two people, three days, with additional people or equipment needed for certain steps.

Weather protection for a Technical Innovations Pro Dome 15' Observatory is assured by overlapping flanges and baffling, not seals that will wear out or deteriorate. Temperature control is provided by a brilliant white exterior gel coat that normally keeps inside temperature within a few degrees of the shade temperature, so no cool-down period is required before your observing session begins. A dark blue interior helps preserve dark adaptation. It's no wonder nearly 1,500 of Technical Innovations domes are now in use by amateur and professional astronomers around the world, and a great number of them PD15 models.

I wish all my purchases were as satisfying as the PRO-DOME. It works flawlessly and is now all spruced up.

I just wanted to let you all know that my [PD-15] dome installation went very well. It took me a while due to my busy schedule, but everything worked out nicely. I really like your product and I plan on adding your automation products soon.

Customer review

We use the PD15 with two astronomy classes at our private girls' high school. It was a gift that generates curriculum activities in many classes beyond astronomy. We are also doing classes for local science teachers, for parents and alumnae, and assisting with Project Astro at a local museum. When we opened the dome in June, 2000, we had 400 visitors, most of whom had never looked through a telescope before. Some guests speculated that we had actually pasted photos on the end of the scope.... The dome is a big attraction to the whole area and generates much excitement.
