Televue 3" ring
Bought it so I could put it on a Losmandy plate straight.
Very high quality
Very high quality. The mirror is so clear/reflective you have to be careful to remember it’s there.
Excellent eyepiece
This eyepiece is well worth the money. Great views of the Moon. I especially like it for globular clusters. Stars are sharp to the edges. The adjustable barrel for the eye relief allows me fast placement of my eye for the correct eye position. This eye piece gives great, sharp contrasty views. I highly recommend this eyepiece. It has the quality that you would expect from a TeleVue product.
Expensive but worth it
I was frankly shocked how big a difference a diag could make. The result was dramatic in clarity. Click lock is nice but I could live without it.
Positive balance aid accessory
I have been trying hard to balance my TV-85 in the past with my heavier eyepieces on a Telepod Head. I love the 2 35mm Panoptic and the heavier Ethos 13mm. Both are nicely balanced when using this balancing aid mounting plate, otherwise over-tightening the elevation friction screws on the Telepod head would be necessary, leading to a possible thread damage due to the softness of the screw material. Problem solved with this mounting plate. The center of gravity of the TV85 is moved forward enough to enhance the balance with the heavier eyepieces. The construction is purely Televue, as well as fit and finish. The installation is very quick. It even allows me to use the fine focus driver with enough space between the stepper motor and the base of the Telepod head. The Balancing aid is permanently attached to my scope mounting ring and it fits nicely when stored with the telescope in the original Televue soft case. I feel it even adds protection to the lower end of the ivory tube from the lack of protective gray foam on one side of the soft case. Would recommend this accessory to anybody enjoying the use of heavy eyepieces on both the TV85 or the TV76 (where I understand it is a must even for not so heavy eyepieces Thank you Televue for such a nice integration of accessories to complete an intelligent dream refractor telescope system!
