Tele Vue 40mm Plossl Eyepiece

The 40 mm Plossl Eyepiece by Tele Vue:

Since Tele Vue introduced their Plossls in 1980, they have won praise and patents, including a patent in Japan. Tele Vue Plossls, designed by Al Nagler, have been a recognized benchmark of performance and value in the class of 50 degree apparent field of view eyepieces. While the Plossls may be the least expensive eyepiece line, they still enjoy the same care and attention to detail as the most expensive. While it's easy for other manufacturers to vie for the lowest price, Tele Vue continues to believe that quality, performance and consistency will ultimately reward you with the most value for your dollar.

Diffraction limited "on-axis" performance is a given. Using more expensive high-index glasses to reduce astigmatism and lateral color at the field's edge, Tele Vue Plossls deliver sharper images than any other brand of 4 or 5 element Plossl or Orthoscopic designs. The faster the focal ratio of your telescope, the greater your visual reward for using Tele Vue eyepieces. Tele Vue Plossls feature full multi-coatings for greatest light transmission and contrast. Blackened lens edges and internal anti-reflection threads tweak the last bit of contrast for maximum image detail. The sharper field focuses faint star light into perceptible points and allows those with manual mounts to gaze longer before re-positioning the image.

The 55 mm focal length has the largest true field possible for 2-Inch eyepiece holders 3 times the true field area of any 1.25-inch eyepiece. The focal plane is placed at the end of the barrel to minimize vignetting. Performance with Schmidt-Cassegrains is remarkable since it avoids the image degradation and severe vignetting which occurs when using telecompressors. Long eye-relief and unique adjustable eyeguard for eyeglass wearers.

In the 1.25-inch series Tele Vue included a long eye-relief 40 mm focal length in the series with a 43-degree apparent field. Like the 55 mm, its focal plane is at the barrel edge for maximum field in the 1.25-inch format. The 32 mm Plossl, with its larger 50-degree apparent field, will deliver the same true field as the 40 mm but with higher magnification. The 32 mm is parfocal with the shorter focal length Plossls. The 25 mm, 20 mm, 15 mm, 11 mm, and 8 mm Plossls round out the focal lengths for various observing from deep sky to planetary. They work best with Tele Vue Powermates to effectively double the number of focal lengths in your collection. Far superior to eyepieces usually provided as standard with most instruments.

For a bit more than generic brands, you can own a genuine Tele Vue Plossl!

Televue 40mm Plossl

I originally found this eyepiece on ebay! This is an excellent eyepiece for the price with razor sharp optics even with the small field of view. It has been used on Meade LX200's and an 80mm apochromatic refractor with excellent results and will be tried on a new 130mm triplet APO refractor. Excellent workmanship and performance. I have ordered their 55mm PLossl and it will be interesting to see its performance. Highly recommended and probably among the best of the best for Plossl's
