Dual Speed Focuser Retrofit
I purchased the Starlight Instruments Feather-Touch Micro Focuser retro kit, MPA-TAK 2.7, for my Takahashi TSA-120. It has a 2.7-inch focuser. This kit should also fit other Taks equipped with a 2.7-inch focuser, like the Tak FS102, TSA-102 and the TOA-130 (the 2.7-inch version). The instructions on the retro-kit's CD disc were pretty straight forward, except for one thing. It assumed I was retrofitting a Tak single speed focuser when in fact I was retrofitting a Tak dual-speed focuser, which requires a very small metric hex wrench for installation and removal. The Feather Touch kit did not supply this wrench. Fortunately for me, I had saved this very wrench after installing a Tak dual speed kit on another Tak many moons ago. This is one instance when having a junk drawer paid off! Unfortunately for me, I won't be able to know if it was worth the expense in replacing the factory dual speed focuser with the Feather-Touch until next summer when it's safe to attend a star party. Until then, I can only admire the Feather-Touch's beautiful gold tone finish.
