Sky-Watcher EQ6-R Pro Equatorial Go-To Mount

With a weight capacity of 44 pounds, the beefy and thoughtfully designed Sky-Watcher EQ6-R Pro Computerized Equatorial Mount is just the thing for amateur astronomers and Astro-imagers who use all but the largest of telescope optical tube assemblies.

The Skywatcher EQ6-R Pro has a belt drive system and stepper motors for accuracy in finding and tracking celestial objects, and Skywatcher’s tried-and-true SynScan hand controller offers up a 42,900 object database, special tours of the night sky, permanent periodic error correction, backlash compensation, the ability to set slewing limits, park, and polar alignment assist via the built-in illuminated polar scope. The EQ6-R Pro also has an ST4 auto guider port.

You’ll really like thoughtful features such as the EQ6-R Pro dual saddle plate that will accept either Vixen- or Losmandy-style dovetails. A built-in carry handle near the polar scope will make transporting and setting up the EQ6-R Pro much easier, as will the retractable counterweight shaft. Many mount manufacturers do not include a polar scope on their mid-weight equatorial mounts, but not Sky-Watcher! They have included a built-in illuminated polar scope to help make polar alignment a breeze.

The Skywatcher EQ6-R Pro mount sits on a very sturdy tripod, with 2” diameter stainless steel legs, a tripod spreader plate with cut-outs for eyepiece storage, and tripod feet that will snuggle into the dirt or grass. The SynScan hand controller slides to a handy holder that attaches to one of the tripod legs.

The EQ6R Pro also comes with two ll-lb. counterweights, a Canon EOS Trigger Cable, and thread-on Power Cable.

OPT is happy to present the upgraded and improved version of Sky-Watcher's EQ6 mount; The EQ6-R Equatorial Go-To Mount! Sky-Watcher entered the construction and design of this new mount with the primary goal of surpassing their already popular E6-6 Go-To mount, and have certainly succeeded. With enhanced rigidity, stability, and payload capacity the Sky-Watcher EQ6-R has improved on all the basic parameters that make an equatorial mount great, increasing the payload capacity to an impressive 44lbs while also ensuring greater stability for the mount as a whole when holding that weight. And it's not just hardware improvements with this mount either; the EQ6-R also boasts improved electronics and software compatibility that meld cleanly with the hardware changes to produce a variety of high quality improvements. This includes permanent periodic error correction, zero-play power transmission, and high precision latitude adjustment even at the maximum load capacity. One completely new feature is the SNAP jack that permits camera control. The design of the mount as a whole has been overhauled for ergonomics with a convenient carrying handle for transport.

Item is good, but missing a cable and I was not advised correctly by seller

I received the item and everything looks good except for 2 issues: 1) The package contents says there should be a “pc-link” cable which didn't come in any of the 2 boxes received. 2) I was advised by the seller (Allen) that the mount would be compatible with my Meade SN8 OTA dovetail bar, but it isn't, so I cannot use my OTA with this mount without any modification. I'm waiting for a reply about this since 5/1, without reply yet.

Very fine high tech mount

Excellent! What a mount! It's super high tech compared to what I had in the '70s. I plan to load it up to or just past the max so I had to order two more weights. When I get it together I'll have to send you a picture. I haven't used it yet, still waiting on the additional weights.

Sky-Watcher EQ6-R

This is an outstanding mount for the money. Having owned several mounts in this class over the years I must say Sky-Watcher has taken the best of the past and built a solid successor. Straight out of the box this mount exhibited no play in RA or DEC. Tracking has been spot on! Great mount at a great price.

Well Ive had this mount two months and i think it was made on a friday at 2pm major fail. Even after flashing, not repeating even trying to two star align. Homing the mount it over, under travels in RA 4, 6, 18 deg. I star hop better than this goto. Nail in the coffin No Return Call from Skywatcher with these issues!!!
