Optec Gemini Focusing Rotator System
New Design Concept:
Optec's engineers have developed an entirely new concept for coupling telescope focus and camera rotation operations into one powerful, yet compact system. Instead of simply affixing a rotator to the end of a focuser drawtube, Gemini was designed from the beginning with a rotating drawtube for exceptional strength and toughness when employing heavy camera cargo. With four lead-screws and four linear bearings, Gemini will be able to handle up to 22-pounds (10 kg) payload packages with no flexure comfortably. Integrated complete 360-degrees rotation with a full 1/2-inch (12.7 mm)of linear travel. Gemini measures only 2.5-inches (63.5 mm) in thickness at the center. Robust Compact Design:
In order to preserve a solid base for heavy camera payloads, Gemini's shell features two parallel plates machined from MIC-6 tool plate for levelness within 0.001" (2.5 microns). The 2.25" of separation between these two plates is maintained through seven precise stand-off spacers. The rotating drawtube is moved through 1/2-inch (12.5 mm) of overall travel via a superior Kevlar timing belt guided by a high torque stepper motor. Exquisite carbon fiber wrap emphasizes the package. Connects to Gemini Control Hub through Dual RJ45 connectors. Support for the rotating drawtube is provided by a custom X-cage bearing system that is in turn supported by sizable 6 mm chrome ball bearings. Support for Multiple Telescopes:
With equal mechanical interfaces on the front and back, the Gemini easily attaches to almost any large telescope optical tube. Optec 4300 dovetail mount maintains continuous three-point contact via recessed oval point set screws. Gemini's 3.75-inch (95.25 mm) clear aperture is preserved through each adapter, advancing even large light cones to the camera's image plane with no vignetting. A conventional camera side configuration might feature a 4300 receiver for the Optec DSI 3.5 High Performance spacer sets built to 0.25" increments when additional separation is necessary. Modern telescope adapters support AG Optical iDK's, Ceravolo Optical Systems Astrographs, Meade 16" SCT, and PlaneWave SecureFit. Multiple Ways to Connect:
The Gemini Control Hub serves as the main controller and connects both the focuser and the rotator to any control PC. Features both Serial and USB communication ports and wired Ethernet Network protocols as standard. A supplemental WiFi board and antenna can be installed at any point. 12V DC power, network, optional hand control, and serial connection ports are available on the bottom of the Gemini hub, with focuser and rotator ports on the top.Optec Gemini Focusing Rotator Specifications...
