Product Details

  • The Photron 150 RC OTA by iOptronis a 150 mm (6-inch) Ritchey Chretien astrograph telescope OTA designed for today's astroimager for a complete imaging and visual system.

Introducing Photron, Ritchey Chretien (RC) telescope OTA by iOptron: Photron instruments are built to facilitate today's astroimager in capturing the data necessary to create spectacular edge to edge sharp astroimages. To achieve this goal, The RC telescopes incorporate low-thermal expansion quartz primary and secondary mirrors with 99-percent reflective dielectric coatings. The RC optical design delivers coma, spherical , and chromatic aberration-free results; perfect for color and monochrome imaging. A fixed position primary mirror eliminates the image shift that occurs when focusing some telescope designs. The steel tube interior is equipped with 10 knife edge baffles to diminish contrast-reducing stray light from bouncing and improving the instrument for both visual and imaging uses.

There are three extension rings provided for a flex-free solid extension as a means to take-up any unneeded back focus.

Mounting Plates: The 250 mm model includes both top and bottom Losmandy-style dovetail plates adding rigidity to the tube while providing attachment points for the mount and other accessories. The 200 mm model includes 1 Losmandy-style and 1 Vixen-style mounting plates. The 150 mm model includes 1 Vixen-style mounting plate.

The smooth dual-speed 2-inch Crawford focuser.

Nice Scope!

The quality of the scope is very good and the scope arrived well columnated out of the box. As usual anytime I buy astronomy gear the clouds roll in however, I have had the scope out a few times since I received it. I have been able to get some very good photos of the moon, the Orion Nebula as well as some clusters with my DSLR attached. Despite what others say about RC telescopes and viewing the planets I have also been able to use it for viewing Saturn and Jupiter and the views are very good. I'm a still learning this scope, I am much more experienced with wide field refractors, but I am happy with this RC scope even with the learning curve. I think Ill keep it! Clear Skies!

Great scope for a great price

Got this scope in the mail after months of waiting for it on backorder. Got a clear night to test it out and it provided a wonderful image of the Pac-Man nebula. Only complaint I have is that I can’t balance it in the declination axis.

First thoughts

Saw first light with partial moon (still waiting for a clear night to try some deep sky viewing/photography). Two things I wish were included:Collimation lens (must be purchased separately), and a second dovetail receiver on the OTA. Extension rings are very fine thread and I am having to change the back spacing between camera and eyepiece, be careful not to cross thread (warning included in manual). Deep sky imaging results are pending, certainly a reasonable price.
