BT-120 SF Binoculars
Feast your eyes on the latest and greatest binoculars from Explore Scientific -- the BT Series! These massive binoculars will let you observe star clusters, gas nebulae, and the craters of the Moon with wonderful detail on a clear night. If you're more of a daytime observer, you can take in the wonders of beautiful landscapes and even airplanes and ships that are at a distance. Due to the large light-gathering lenses and multi-coated optics of those lenses, you will be able to see bright and beautiful images even at night!
You can consider this large binocular as a double refractor telescope, since one complete lens telescope is available per eye! Objects that you are observing are reproduced super vividly in these binoculars, offering you a wonderful visual experience.
Durable Body
These binoculars are built for rough-and-tough experiences. The IPX6 sealed and nitrogen-filled design offers great protection against fogging of the internal optics, even under rainy and wet weather conditions. The binoculars are protected by a very light magnesium housing that makes them both lightweight and easy to handle.
Quality Optics
What's more, these binoculars are fitted with two Explore Scientific 20 mm eyepieces of the 62 degree LER series! These eyepieces offer an apparent view of 62 degrees and a focal length of 20 mm, allowing the BT-120 binoculars to produce 33x magnification. Therefore, these wide angle eyepieces offer a field of view of 1.8 degrees at moderate magnification. Paired with a long eye relief of 15 mm and soft silicone eyecups, these eyepieces offer comfortable viewing for both eyeglass wearers and non-eyeglass wearers alike. Due to their waterproof design and argon filling, these eyepieces are ultra-durable and easy to clean as well.
Adjustable Magnification
You can easily adjust the magnification of your BT series binoculars by using a wide range of eyepieces. All eyepieces that have a plug-in diameter of 1.25" / 31.7 mm can be used with this series of binoculars. Explore Scientific recommends using the eyepieces from the 62 and 82 degree series with focal lengths from 8 to 26 mm. Magnification can be varied from 15x to 50x (focal length binoculars: focal length eyepiece = magnification). The eyepieces are held in the binoculars by a brass compression ring clamp and guarantee a tilt-free position.
Eyepiece Filter
You can both increase the contrast and visibility of objects by using a corresponding filter directly into the thread of the eyepiece sleeves. Note: The use of color and nebula filters must always be done in pairs. Suitable eyepiece filters include all Explore Scientific screw filters with 1.25" / 31.7 mm diameter.
45-Degree Viewing Angle
With the 45-degree viewing angle, you will be able to use the binoculars in a comfortable position, even when they are strongly tilted. You can adjust the individual interpupillary distance between 54-76 mm. Exact and precise focusing can be easily achieved using the fine helical individual focusing. The integrated, extendable dew caps can be easily removed for both high humidity and cold weather conditions. This will avoid fogging of the outer objective lenses and effectively shields additional light coming in from the peripherals.
Tripods and Tripod Connections
It is highly recommended to use these large binoculars with a sturdy photo tripod that has an appropriate load capacity. The tripod connection is made via two 1/4" or one 3/8" threaded holes (standard photo tripod thread) in the tripod adapter of the binoculars. The ideal solution is to use the optional U-Mount with Field Tripod (01-14300). This U-Mount is specifically designed for the large binoculars in the BT series and can safely carry them. Vibrations are miniscule due to the large construction of the U-Mount and a large stainless steel tripod. Even at high magnification, there are no vibrations and the most minute details can be observed.
