Explore Scientific 8 x 50 Finderscope - Illuminated, Right Angle

The illuminated reticle of the Explore 8x50 Right Angle Viewfinder is etched to with star patterns for polar aligning in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres. The deep red illumination is continuously variable to provide the desired brightness. The Explore Scientific 8x50 produces a wide 6-degree field of view and allows the precision focus of both main objective and the eyepiece illuminated reticle. A precision polished roof prism produces images that are right-side-up, left-to-right correct. In other words, things are not upside-down and backward like most viewfinders.

  • Can this scope with right angle accommodate a 1.25" guide cam?  If so, is the right angle removable to allow insertion of the guide cam or does the guide cam slide into the right angle?

This finderscope does not allow the use of cameras with 1.25" nosepieces. The eyepiece is not designed to be removed as it is threaded to the diagonal.

  • will the smartstar cube-E series  6" fit in this case?

You might be able to fit the mount and tripod in the case, but there would be no room for the scope to fit. That would have to go into another case.

  • I need to convert this mount to a vixen mount is there an adapter to turn this into a vixen mount?

There is no adapter from the included rings to a Vixen finder mount, but you can use third party finderscope rings from other manufacturers to attach this scope to a vixen -type finder bracket. Please contact us at OPT if you have any questions.

  • can this be mounted as a replacement for the finderscope of my Ioptic 150mm Mak

Nicholas, The Explore Scientific finder, if it's mounted on the Explore Scientific bracket, can not be mounted on the vixen type saddle because it has a different type of shoe. You would need to get a bracket for a 50mm finder with a Vixen-style shoe.

  • How do you change the battery in the illuminator?

This finderscope has an illuminator that can be separated from the main finderscope (recommended so that you do not drop your batteries). Once this is done, hold the illuminator with the LED down, look for the white dot ad arrow on the side in the middle
