Celestron StarSense Explorer LT 80AZ Smartphone Telescope

The Celestron StarSense Explorer LT 80AZ Smartphone Telescope allows you to tour the night sky with your smartphone! The StarSense Explorer app calculates your position in real time and guides you with a list of currently visible objects.

What you can see

See planets, brighter nebulae and galaxies, star clusters, and double stars from the city. See faint, deep sky objects from darker skies.

Dual-axis slow-motion controls on a manual alt-azimuth mount make it easy to follow arrows in-app to your target. Eyepiece viewing is ready when the app’s bullseye turns green.

Purchased primarily for the StarSense bracket and app, excellent experience so far

Celestron should be commended on the quality of this product! I am an intermediate user, with my own 12.5" homemade truss Dob and a couple smaller scopes. I was intrigued by the StarSense app. I found it works extremely well, both on the 80mm OTA and on my Dob after I made an adapter bracket for it. Last night was one day before the first quarter Moon and it easily found objects all across the sky even in the natural light pollution from the Moon. Also, I used the 80mm OTA to view the terminator on the Moon, and easily saw sharp images of the X mountain visible that night as well as sharp images of the various craters and mountains along the terminator. The alt-az mount is typical of scopes in this price range, a bit shakey and hard to point. But the OTA itself is excellent with very little chromatic aberration and a well defined and centered Airy disk when checking collimation. The 25mm eyepiece and the upright-view 90 degree star diagonal are also surprisingly good for a scope in this price class. Finally the StarSense smartphone bracket is well engineered and the app works basically flawlessly! The only thing I wish it had was an NGC menu, but since this series of scopes is targeted at the beginner, I think it does its job beautifully.
