DESCRIPTION

Celestron .7X Reducer for EdgeHD 1100

The Celestron .7x Reducer Lens makes your EdgeHD 1100 one full f-stop faster than f/10, reducing your exposure time by one-half to capture the same object brightness. It maintains a similar flat-field performance as the native EdgeHD optical design while increasing the FOV by 43 percent to better capture wide field images.

The EdgeHD reducer threads directly onto the 3.25 Inch threads of your EdgeHD optical tube.  This reduces mechanical vignetting and allows for use with larger (full frame) sensors and Off-Axis Guiders. It keeps the identical back focus when used at f/10 and provides generous back focus to accommodate additional accessories and a wide variety of cameras.

 

 Features a 5-Element Lens Design...

The EdgeHD Reducer uses Rare Earth Lanthanum glass elements.  They offer clear, high-contrast viewing while minimizing chromatic aberration.  The lenses are fully multi-coated.  All air-to-glass surfaces have multiple layers of coating for maximum light transmission and color correction.  Each element has blackened edges to minimize internal reflection and maximize contrast.

 

The 60 mm clear Aperture Lens is optimized for   42 mm image circle for use with large CCD sensors.

 

The housing is machined aluminum for precise spacing of the optical elements.  There are threaded metal covers for each end of the lens assembly to protect the Reducer's lenses from dust and scratches.

Celestron .7X Reducer for EdgeHD 1100

Works great. I wish it did not cost so much. And I wish it was a f.63 instead of f.7. But it works as advertised. Note that it is heavy but that is the nature of the beast (lots of glass).

The reducer is very well put together with screw on lens covers on both ends. Very pleased with the quality and performance. I would highly recommend.

C-11 EdgeHD Reducer

Well Finally after years of waiting, the Celestron C-11 EdgeHD .7x focal reducer is being shipped. I have mine installed and have started testing. I am using this with a MOAG/SSAG/Micro-Touch Focuser and an SBIG ST-8300M camera. As indicated by Celestron the new reducer back-focus does remain the same at 146mm however there is a significant mirror shift required to reach focus. My typical seeing at F-10 yields 7-8 HFD star diameters and with the reducer at F-7 it yields 5-6 HFD diameters (about what one would expect. Images of M-13 at F-10 or F-7 have yielded very round stars with no visible chromatic aberration and very little light fall-off. This is on the 8300 chip size. I plan on further tests using my full frame DSLR in the near future. The generous 146mm back-focus being identical for both F-10 and F-7 make this very easy to switch in and out of the optical train even in the dark. The only small disappointment I have is with the rather loose fit of the thread interfaces especially in this modern day of NC machining capabilities. These tolerances should be held much tighter. Other than this the optics and mechanical finish are excellent.
