Celestron PowerTank Lithium

Celestron has produced a battery that surpasses most any other pre existing design, in a show of their usual excellence and quality design. The PowerTank Lithium drastically exceeds the parameters of both standard Lithium Ion batteries that predate it, and Sealed Lead-Acid batteries. And it's not just more effective - though it certainly is that. It's also safer, lighter, and more convenient! It's more compact, lightweight design makes it perfect for the astronomer on the go who needs to power their computerized scope and mount far away from home, and it's dependable output and incredible lifespan make it ideal for anyone.

The Lithium PowerTank has an un-recharged shelf life of 10 years, which is almost three times the 3 years boasted by a standard Lithium Ion battery, and is a full ten times as long as a Sealed Lead-Acid battery. And it'll last almost as long even if you are recharging frequently; it's able to be fully charged and discharged two thousand times before issues occur, compared to the Lithium Ion's five hundred, and Sealed Lead-Acid's mere 300. You won't find a longer lasting, more dependable battery for your USB powered devices to run on!

In terms of safety? This battery can handle much higher temperatures than a comparable Lithium Ion design, and unlike it's competitors is not a fire hazard if pierced! This makes it much safer to take this battery with you out into the world- for example, on a hike! For related reasons, it's also a more environmentally friendly option than most other batteries, as it uses phosphates instead of environmentally hazardous elements like cobalt or lead commonly found in other rechargeable batteries.

Ask a Question
  • What would it take to make this work with a Meade scope?

Due to the size the 2.5mm plugs on Meade telescopes, there isn't an off the shelf part that we offer that would make this battery work with a Meade telescope. I this case it would be a good idea to stick with the Meade power tanks.

  • What is the amp hour rating?

The equivalent amp hour rating is approximately 7.2Ah.

  • Will this battery power more heavy duty mounts like the CGE PRO or the new CGX? The CGX manual says it needs at least 4 amps and this looks like it only puts out 3 amps.

No on the CGE Pro, yes on the newer mounts. This was the answer we got from Celestron: PowerTank Lithium technically should not power CGE Pro. It will power the CGX and CGX-L no problem. The power input port on CGX and CGX-L states 12V DC with 4A of cu

  • Will the included power cord work with the CG4 Dual axis motor drive kit?

Unfortunately, no. The CG-4 motors need 6V, while this battery outputs 12V. This would damage your motors.

It works well with the AVX and provides enough amperage to power the mount.
