Celestron 8" NexStar Evolution Computerized Telescope

The Celestron 8" NexStar Evolution Computerized Telescope is a part of the Nexstar Evolution series which is known to be one of the most user-friendly telescopes ever! Celestron engineers designed NexStar Evolution based on years of customer feedback. It offers many thoughtful design features that combine to provide you the best possible experience for beginners and more advanced telescope users alike. One of the best things about this telescope series is that there is no use for external power supply as it is built in. It comes with a lithium-ion battery so that you will be able to enjoy up to 10 hours of stargazing on a single charge. This series also comes with a USB charge port to top off the other devices in your life that need to stay powered on during an observing session.

In the past, most large telescope systems have been difficult to set up and to move. The NexStar Evolution series is far from that with large, ergonomic handles that help you move it easily from place to place. Its set up is also easy enough for any beginner astronomer to understand. The steel tripod features leg etchings to help you achieve a level, uniform height for your telescope. Manual clutches in both altitude and azimuth offer greater flexibility to manually point the telescope when powered off. You will also be able to store up to 7 eyepieces in 2 accessory trays, one with an adjustable red LED illuminator.

If you're interested in astroimaging, the 8" NexStar Evolution is an excellent, affordable way to get started. It's the only fork-mounted telescope in its price range that offers worm gears, along with improved motors. NexStar Evolution's tracking accuracy is so impressive, you can capture images of deep-sky objects like the Orion Nebula by simply attaching your DSLR camera. As you progress in the hobby of astroimaging, you can add our Pro HD Wedge to achieve longer exposures for more detailed astrophotos. Of course, the Schmidt-Cassegrain optical system offers bright, sharp views with StarBright XLT optical coatings - a great choice for visual observers and budding astroimagers alike.

    Questions & Answers

    Ask a Question
    • In your spec sheet you show that "Hand Controller Included? NO." Is this true. I'm referring to the original hand controller that came with my Nexstar 8SE.

The Evolution-Series does include a Celestron Nexstar+ Hand-Controller. It is the same one currently included with the 8SE, but is unique from the HC included with earlier-production Nexstar SE-Series telescopes. Additionally, the StarSense Auto-Align ac

    • Is the 8 inch Celestron Evolution-Series optical tube HyperStar compatible ?  Will the mount handle the added weight of the Hyperstar lense and a camera ?

According to the manufacturer, the optical tubes of the Evolution Series will all be Hyperstar compatible. The mount will be able to handle the extra weight of a CCD camera with the Hyperstar lens, but physically larger cameras such as a DSLR or a monochr

    • Even though it has built in batteries, can it also be operated from an external power source like a powertank?

The Advanced VX mount does not have built in batteries and includes a 12v cigarette lighter plug to run it from a portable battery (though make sure that the power source can output at least 3.5A). The CE-18780 5A max AC adapter can be purchased if you wa

    • Even though it has built in batteries, can it also be operated from an external power source like a powertank?

According to Celestron, the NexStar Evolution will be able to be connected to a Powertank or AC adapter, though it may use that power just to charge its internal battery.

    • I have not seen in your ad when this will be available for shipment.

Celestron expects initial shipments to be in late May or June, 2014.

    • Will the mount have an autoguider port?

Given that this telescope would need an optional wedge in order to use an autoguider successfully and Celestron produces 4 equatorial mounts from the Advanced VX to the CGE Pro along with the heavy duty CPC Deluxe dual fork mount, Celestron chose not to p

    • what kind of , where can i get android mobile app ?

The Android mobile app can be downloaded in the Google Play store. The information for the app designation is listed in the manual file:///C:/Users/chris.OPT/Downloads/CELESTRON_NexStarEVOLUTION_Manual.pdf.

    • What wedge will work with the Evolution series of Telescopes?

The Celestron CPC Heavy Duty Wedge (CE-93664) is the one Celestron sells and recommends. The Evolution will also work with the older, discontinued 8" Celestron wedge because the hole pattern on the base has not changed, but the scope would not be as stabl

    • Will the Evolution work with a GPS module?

If you are using the iOS/Android Celestron app from your smart device, then an external GPS is a moot point as the telescope will download the time and location from the GPS in that device. If instead you are using the supplied Nexstar+ hand controller,

    • The 120,000 object database for the Evolution series, is that in the hand control or associated with the iOS/Android app?

The full 120,000 object database is in the iOS/Android app. The telescope includes the standard Nexstar+ hand controller with a ~40,000 object database.

    • Hi. Can you order/buy the 8" Evolution with the heaver duty tripod that comes with the 9.25" Evolution?  Thanks Craig.

The 8" Evolution is packed with its tripod in one box so that is the only way that it is sold. You can purchase the heavier duty tripod separately however. We have them on our website under item # CE-93493.

    • What else do I need to attach a Canon DSLR 50D? What is the weight? For a SW AZEQ6 GOTO mount which dovetail to use?

Hello Fernando, This telescope comes with threaded adapters for both 42mm & 48mm so all you would need to get is a 42 or 48mm t-ring that is made for Canon EOS cameras. The optical tube is about 11 pounds so it is definitely within the 45 pound payload

    • What is the difference in weight between the Evolution 6-in and 8-in OTAs? Total telescope weight is given as 35.4 lbs (6-in) vs 40.6 lbs (8-in) or 5.2 lbs. Listed weights for Celestron 6-in & 8-in SCT OTAs w/CG-5 plate differ only by 2.5 lbs: 10 vs 12.5.

I put them on a scale to get an accurate measurement for both. I used the 6SE and 8SE OTA's, which are identical except for color, because I did not have the 6" . Both scopes were weighed with nothing but the dovetail and 1.25" visual back adapter (

    • Can the Ioptron CubePro  go onto this 1.5" tripod?

Unfortunately, no. This tripod has a vertical metal post on it for the azimuth bolts on the SkyGuider to push off of. This post prevents the CubePro mount from being attached properly to this tripod.

    • What is the individual weight of the 3 separate parts making up the telescope, so the OTA, the mount and the tripod? As Celestron does not specify this, would you be able to weigh it? I would like to know for both the 8" and the 9.25" version.

      Hello Freddy, I weighed each of the components & I have a breakdown of the two telescopes below. Celestron Evolution 8; Optical Tube Assembly with accessories, 14 lbs. Mount Arm, 17 lbs. Tripod, 11 lbs. Celestron Evolution 9.25; Optical Tube Assembly;

    • Can you plug in a dew heater to the telescope's internal battery, so you don't need a field battery to run it?

The Evolution scope line-up does not have a 12v power out line for heavy power draw accessories like a dew heater. You will need to use a separate power supply for a heater strip or heated dew shield.

    • How is the scope's internal battery recharged?  With a supplied AC power cord?

Yes, you use the supplied AC adapter to recharge the battery for the Evolution scopes.

    • When using the SkyPortal ap to get the initial alignment, do you have to manually input your lat. and long., or is that automatically downloaded from your phone or tablet?

No. Your lat. and long. Is automatically down loaded from your phone or tablet. It uses the lat. and long. From the location of phone or tablet.

    • I am in a wheelchair and I would like to know can I see through the eyepiece or is there a why I can see useing my iPad

Wheel chair I might say it might be a little difficult to view through your eye piece. If you had a taller chair you can...maybe add a few pillows? to sit on...but I use cell phone all the time and I can view very comfortably with a normal size chair. Ver

    • I am in a wheelchair and I would like to know can I see through the eyepiece or is there a why I can see useing my iPad

You mention viewing the image through the app. Is there a ccd built into the scope to enable this or did you use an unmentioned optional camera? What model?

    • The mount on the 8" Nexstar Evolution appears beefier than the regular 8" Nexstar SE ,at least the fork arm and base...does anyone have direct experience on the dampening time for visual images at high power? I've read reviews saying the vibrations with t

The Evolution 8 fork mount and tripod are definitely more substantial and the damping time is reduced compared to the 8SE. I would say that it is as stable if not a bit better than the 6 SE for damping time.

    • The mount of 8" NexStar Evolution telescope is same as the 9.25" NexStar Evolution telescope ? The tripod of two model seems different. I would like to khow the differnces of the mount of the two model.

The Difference in the 8" and 9.25" Evolution is the tripod. The 9.25 Evolution uses the DX Tripod which gives it more stability with the extra weight of the optical tube.

    • What detector is used in the WATEC 910 camera?

Watec does not state specifics except to say that the resolution is 570TVL (equiv to vertical pixels) and that the sensitivity works at light levels between 0.0001LUX and 0.000005LUX.

    • Can the Evolution mount be ordered separately to upgrade a 8se?

The Celestron Evolution Mount it s currently not available for purchase on its own.

    • What is the fov and eye relief for the two eyepieces sold with the celestron evolution 8"

The Evolution 8 comes with a 40mm Plossl with a 43 degree AFOV and a 13mm Plossl with a 50 degree AFOV. True field of view for each at a 2000mm focal length is 0.86 degrees (40mm) and 0.33 degrees (13mm). The eye relief of a plossl is generally ~2/3 the

    • What is the DC power supply that comes with the bundled packages 1& 2? Package 4 indicates a Powertank. THanks.

Hello, The Celestron Evolution 8" bundles 1 and 2 do not include a DC power source. I would recommend https://www.optcorp.com/celestron-12v-7ah-power-tank.html This is the same product listed in the 4th bundle. Tony
