The 8-Inch X 42-Inch Portable Pier by ATS:
ATS, or Advanced Telescope Systems, is committed to making top quality piers for the amateur market. With a guarantee on their product for three years against defaults in workmanship or materials.
About the ATS 8-Inch Diameter Portable Piers
The ATS portable telescope pier is highly weather resistant with no parts exposed to the weather eliminating rust often found in other piers. Made entirely out of 6061 aluminum with a durable powder paint finish and 100-percent stainless steel hardware, these piers stand the test of time. You want to chose a pier because of its added stability over a traditional telescope tripod, and ATS delivers. The pier tube is firmly TIG welded to the leg attachment blocks on both top and bottom for a rock solid hold. The 8-inch piers use a 0.125-inch thick aluminum tubing to ensure the best stability while keeping the overall weight manageable. The legs are constructed of square aluminum tube to reinforce that strength and stability that is so ultimately important in a pier.
The ATS portable piers are easy to set up too. The three legs fold down flat against the body of the pier and no tools are needed for set up in the field. A center balanced handle is included with each pier. Hard-rubber foot pads, paired with turnbuckle base to leg adjusters make sure that you have an even and sure footing every time you set up.
ATS also produces a wide range of adapters to fit Meade, Celestron, Losmandy, Software Bisque Paramount, Astro-Physics and Takahashi mounts or will custom make a plate to your specifications so that their piers can carry nearly any mount on the market. The adapter plate you choose will add some height to the pier, from .25-inch to 3-inch (for Losmandy adapters).
Additional ATS Pier Options
Poly Coat: ATS offers a clear polyurethane overcoat for all of their piers at the additional cost of $100. While this clear coat is certainly not required it does offer added protection against the elements, particularly fading due to UV exposure. If your pier will be exposed to the elements for long periods of time, if you live in an area with extreme weather or if your pier will be dedicated to solar observing and imaging this clear coat is highly recommended.
Pier Colors: If glossy white isn't your thing, ATS will powder coat your pier in a variety of stock colors or in any custom color of powder coating you would like.
ATS Standard Colors:
- Astro-Physics Creme: The off-white color match used on their quality mounts.
- Gloss Black: Slick, clean, and ultra-dark.
- Graphite Grey: Contrast compromise, offered in smooth or textured.
ATS Alternative Colors:
- Silver Flake: A fantastic metallic, that shines in the sun with a lightly-glittered look. This choice requires a clear overcoat ($100).
- Meade Blue: The dark blue color match to their LX series telescopes.
- Tinfoil Silver: The shade of gray that matches the Mathis mounts. This choice requires a custom color charge ($100).
*About ordering custom color powder coat. * Custom requests will add several weeks to the completion of a mount and is an additional charge of $100, as powder does need to be ordered ahead of production start to ensure the color arrives in time to be applied to the raw pier. ATS can order any existing color of powder coat which comes in a rainbow variety of hues. Our internet sales staff will be in contact with you if you choose custom color. Please have a swatch or link to the color requested available. Depending on the color and finish of the powder coat you choose, an additional $100 may be charged for the clear Poly Coat.
