Astronomik Luminance Filter - Canon EOS APS Clip

Astronomik Luminance (IR/UV Blocking) Filter - Canon EOS APS Clip

The Astronomik Luminance UV and IR cut Filter is great for for digital photography! The Astronomik UV-IR Blocker lets the full range of sensitivity of the human eye (according to DIN 5031) pass, and blocks all other parts of the spectrum in the UV and IR. The Astronomik UV-IR Blocker is the ideal choice as a luminance filter for any kind of digital photography.

Because of the perfect blocking of UV and IR all optical problems in these parts of the spectrum are avoided. The filter is optimized for systems with focal ratios between f/0.5 and f/50. The typical transmission is higher than 99%.

The UV-IR Blocker gives you a perfect parfocal filter for the luminance channel. It is also great as a dust protection for your telescope and camera. It works as a dust protection of Schmidt-Cassegrain, Schmidt-Newton or Maksutov system or as a dust protection in front of DSLR camera and can be used as an alternative instead of the IR-Blocker if your camera has a high sensitivity at short wavelengths. Try using the Astronomik Luminance (IR/UV Blocking) Filter as an alternative instead of the MC Clear if your system has any refracting elements.

You should think about using the IR-blocker if your camera has a low sensitivity at short wavelengths. Think about using the MC Clear glass if you have a system without any refracting elements. If you do color imaging from light polluted places, please think about using the CLS CCD filter for the luminance data instead!

    About the Astronomik Clip-Filter System....

The patented Astronomik Clip-Filter System is black anodized aluminum and laser-cut on state-of-the-art modern machines. It can be inserted within seconds directly into the EOS camera body. There are no changes necessary and all lens functions (focus, screen, image stabilization) remain functional!

Almost all Canon system lenses (with the exception of the EF-S series) and all M42 and T2 lens adapters, can be used with the Astronomik Clip-Filter System. The Clip-Filter System also acts as an outstanding dust shield, which prevents the possibility of dust settling on the sensor during long time exposure (The MC-Clear filter does not have a filter effect and only acts as a dust shield.)

Note: For Photographers interested in daylight IR-Photography a "MC-modification" is possible for some cameras. If you are interested in this, please send us a short mail. We will give you more details. The "MC-modification" gives you no advantage for normal astrophotography! If you have a full-frame EOS camera, like the 5D or 6D, you should buy the Astronomik Luminance XL EOS Clip Filter instead.

    Questions & Answers

    Ask a Question
    • Will this filter (UV IR clip) fit in my full spectrum Canon T3i?

yes! The Astronomik Luminance Filter - Canon EOS APS Clip is designed to attach to your camera.

    • What about a "Full spectrum " modified Canon T3? Does it match?

Yes, this will be a good match for a full spectrum modified T3.

    • Will this fit a Canon T5? and is this the right filter if I've had a full spectrum mod done to the camera (remove all filters from the sensor)? I'm told it is and will block the light keeping the stars from bloating.

Yes, this would be the correct filter for your camera to block UV and IR light while still passing ~99% of H-a.

    • Hi, I have a FS Mod Canon 40D. Will this filter allow me to use it as a normal camera again?

Not exactly. The red response will still be too high for daylight use. An AK-OWBCCD-EOS "Original White Balance" filter will work much better with your FS modded 40D.
