Product Details

  • This Counterweight System is a clamping plate shaped for a V-series Dovetail with a mounted 3-inch long threaded rod for counterweights.

It is packaged with a 3.5-pound counterweight that will fit cleanly onto the 3-inch rod.

The split clamp design grips your dovetail bar along the entire surface of the saddle and will not dent or scratch the dovetail bar.

The dovetail clamp has a large T-handle locking-knob for tool free operation.

Great way to balance refractor

Works great. With zwo 1600 camera plus filter wheel and accessories my refractor cannot be balanced ob my mount with my short dovetail. Putting this on end of dovetail balances everything perfectly.

May need Modifying

I purchased this item for a small SCT, for me it was necessary to cut the length of the mounting bolt that carries the actual weight. The design is nice and it does solve my balance problem albeit with a necessary modification. I have a Nexstar 5SE mounted on the Celestron advanced VX mount, this mount has a Declination motor on the front of the unit, directly under the OTA so when the mount is slewing to target, the bolt for the weight hits the declination motor and stops the movement. Allowing this to happen will cause you to lose your alignment and possibly burn up the drive motor. To fix this issue I chose to cut the length of the bolt in half, now I can slew to any target without problems but the amount of adjustment available to me has been reduced.
