What to Do When It's Cloudy

Astronomy Tips for When It's Cloudy

Sitting at home without the ability to use your astronomy equipment? If you can't go outside because your weather forecast is cloudy, if you're stuck at home on a rainy day, or whatever your reason may be, we’ve compiled a list to inspire you.

1. PROCESS YOUR IMAGES

What better time than on a cloudy or rainy day to process and perfect your images?

You can follow OPT's CEO, Dustin Gibson on his Twitch channel for live processing tips!

Or you can watch our simple PixInsight Processing Tutorial below.

2. GET OUT UNDER THE SUN!

If you have a cloudy night but a sunny day, you can try solar imaging and observing.

Get some fresh air and Vitamin D while exploring the Sun! Be sure only to use solar telescopes or solar filters when looking directly at the Sun. NEVER look at the Sun directly through a telescope without proper equipment.

3. LISTEN TO SPACE JUNK PODCAST

This interactive map is a great starting point for planning your next trip to that perfectly dark sky site you've been searching for!

If you can't travel to remote locations, you can still virtually travel to dark sky sites using one of OPT's remote observatories.

OPT has remote observatories that can be controlled from anywhere in the world! These observatories are free to use to the public.

Fueled by passion, curiosity, and diversity, the OPT Observatory Project is being developed to bring the public closer to the cosmos by providing free remote access to OPT's remote observatories.
