ZWO ASI 120 Super Speed Color CMOS Telescope Camera

The  ASI120S Super Speed Sensitive Color CMOS Camera - USB 3.0 by ZWO:

A versatile camera has just become faster! Featuring a USB 3.0 connection, image download times are lightning fast. The ZWO ASI120 Super Speed Sensitive Color camera is a perfect choice for lunar and planetary imaging and features a CMOS sensor sensitive enough to capture bright deep-sky objects. Truly a "do it all" camera at an incredible price making it the clear choice for the serious beginning or intermediate astrophotographer.

The ASI120MC-S is built on a 1/3 inch CMOS AR0130S full color sensor. Capable of producing single shot images in full color without the need for color filters. The pixel array of 1280x960 and a pixel size of 3.75 micron square, this camera is capable of capturing moderately wide fields with the included 150-degree wide angle lens adapter. Peak QE is 75-percent with absolutely no fixed pattern noise. Protecting the sensor is an IR-cut window.

An ultra fast incarnation of its predecessor, the ZWO ASI120S has the ability to deliver frames at 254 per second with reduced resolution or 60 frames per second at full resolution. This wide range of resolution and capture settings allows you to switch from planetary and lunar imaging to DSO's easily without having to weigh down your set up with an additional camera.

Housed in a gorgeous metallic red aluminum housing with both a USB 3.0 and ST4 autoguider port 6.5-foot cables for both are included as are a 2-inch M42x0.75 threaded interface and standard M42 to 1.25-inch nosepiece. A 1/4-20 thread in the center bottom of the camera makes for easy attachment to a wide variety of camera mounts and tripods. 4 M4 threads offer additional mounting positions, along the outside edge.

Ask a Question
  • I can use this camera manually driving my scope. I don't need an RA drive?

Unless you are using a scope with a focal length of less than ~600-800mm with very short exposures (imaging just the moon or Jupiter), you will need an RA drive to get enough usable frames with this camera. The targets will drift too far between frames t

  • Will this work with Mac OS X 10.11.6?

ZWO does not provide software for OS-X, but they have a link page to companies that do: The freeware program OACapture says it works with OSX 64-bit (Snow Leopard, Mountain Lion, Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite,

  • Is there any other accessories that I would need before I can pair this to my telescope, I have a Barlow with t-threads already on it.

As long as you also have a fast laptop with a USB 3.0 connection and install the appropriate software from the ZWO links for your operating system, you should be good to go to start planetary and lunar imaging with the gear you have.

  • Is this camera work with Celestron Nexstar6SE and can take deep sky object?

Hello, The camera will take exposures up to 1000 seconds. I think that it may be a bit noisy at longer exposures because it's not cooled. The camera will work with the 6SE scope. And we do have the camera in stock. Thanks. Steve

  • will this camera work with usb 2.0 at a slower frame rate? thank you.

Hi john, I don't know if you got my previous answer but the ZWO camera will work, just with the USB 2.0 it works slower than the 3.0. We do have both cameras in stock. If you want to order, please give me a call at 800-483-6287. Thanks.

  • is this camera just for planetary imaging or deep sky long exposure

Hello Bill, Thank you for your question. Since this camera has a maximum exposure setting of 1,000 seconds, you can indeed take images of deep sky objects with this camera.

  • is it windows 10 compatible

Yes, at least as far as compatibility with SharpCap software is concerned. One of the telescope experts at OPT has installed this camera on his Windows 10 laptop and found that he was able to run it with this software.

  • Is it windows 8.1 compatible?

Yes, This ZWO camera will work with windows 8.

  • Hi. I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Can you confirm that this camera and the included drivers & software are compatible? Thanks.

Yes, this camera will work on a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit operating system. The drivers and software are compatible.

  • Is this camera Mac-compatible?

Bonjour, j'utilise une caméra ZWO 120MM avec un Macbook Pro et le logiciel Oacapture sans problème !

  • Is this camera Mac-compatible?

Yes, the ZWO USB 3.0 cameras are Mac-compatible, though you need 3rd party software OA Capture to run them on OS-X.
