Vixen Porta II Mount with Train and Track Motors

Vixen Porta II Mount with Train and Track Motors

The Porta II is a solid alt-az mount with a 15 lb payload capacity and features Slow Motion Flexible Handles to minimize vibrations and keep your view sharp. This is very useful in searching and tracking celestial objects. The Sky at Night says: "When moving the telescope around the sky with this mount, we found any vibrations quickly dampened down. The whole system was very stable, even when the tripod was at its maximum extended height." The mount head is easily removed to allow for a switch to a heavier tripod. In addition, this is a great mount for terrestrial viewing. With no locks or clutches, the gear drives make it a simple matter to precisely track a planet or a ship on the horizon by turning the elevation and/or azimuth control handles. The "World-Standardƒ???????? dovetail attachment system on the Porta II was developed by Vixen. This allows the Porta II to accept various dovetail mounted optical tubes and binoculars.

Hello Ivan, Thank you for your question. The weight capacity for this mount is 15 pounds so it would not be a very good mount for a telescope that weighs more than that. You would be better off with an equatorial mount that can handle 30 pounds that are

  • Hello, will this accept a NexStar8SE and all the related accessories such as finderscope, eyepieces and the occasional .5 LB DSLR?

The mount will be able to carry all of that gear as long as it is balanced and the total weight is under 20 lbs, but as this is an alt-az mount you will be limited in your max exposure time to ~30 seconds. An equatorial mount would be a better recommenda
