Pegasus Astro Ultimate Powerbox v2
If you are tired of carrying multiple power packs and dealing with a mess of power and data cables, the Pegasus Astro Ultimate Powerbox v2, a sophisticated power control unit, is the “Ultimate” solution. The idea is an enclosure that makes a sufficient number of amperes available. No cables disturb the movements of the mount and the instrument, only the main power cord, and one USB data cord is attached to the Ultimate Powerbox v2 and then branch off the other cables powering all devices.
The Pegasus Astro Ultimate Powerbox v2 features all-around improved electronics compared to the original predecessor.
A USB3.1 Hub has been added so you can switch on/off each USB port, more power outputs, more dew heaters, a new stepper controller that can drive any stepper motor in the astronomy market as well as expansion ports for future devices that will communicate with the UPBv2 Controller!
The Ultimate Powerbox v2 Main Features:
- 4 x 12V Smart Outputs,
- 3 x PWM duty cycle channels for your Dew Heaters or Flat panel / Fans
- a USB3.1 SuperSpeed, 5 Gbit/s Industrial Grade Powered Hub that includes 4 x USB3.1 and 2 x USB2 available ports (6 USB ports in total)

- a 12V / always ON Output
- Environmental & Power readings
I upgraded to this box from the Pocket version to help out more with my cable management. Having the USB and power all in one unit keeps my setup looking clean with only 2 cables coming down the rig. The software itself is easy to run and it helps keep you in line with the amount of power needed to run my setup.
This is a great item; excellent options for power management but more importantly, it can allow you to eliminate two components in favor of a single item that acts as power distribution and USB hub.
The addition of this powerbox has reduced the cabling off of my mount to TWO!. An ethernet cable from mount to mini pc and power cord for the powerbox. I run my mini pc, asi1600mm pro and filter wheel and two dew heaters. I run my moonlite focuser with this powerbox using the pegasus astro Pegasus Astro RJ45 to DB9 Stepper Motor Cable for Ultimate Powerbox / DMFC # PEG-CMOT-RJ45DB. Everything works great. I have my mini pc mounted on top of this on top of my scope. Highly recommended. Joe in Mobile
fit all requirements, good produts
I was excited when Pegasus announced this new version and its compatibility with my specific focuser motor (Starlight Instruments HSM30) and after their email confirmation re compatibility I purchased it. Upon testing the stepper motor functions, using the special custom RJ45 cable I was disappointed to notice the motor was just vibrating a bit rather than spinning when sending move commands. I reported this to OPT who were kind to immediately offer a replacement assuming the device was faulty. In the mean time I tested other features of the device and encountered issues with the current display (The individual current display on each power output). I connected my 12VDC Focuser controller to one of the power outputs and there was no current showing although when I measured the current with my multi-meter it measured 0.7A. I also connected 2 dew straps to the dew heaters outputs, they were both heated up when I adjusted the power output but the current reading was only displayed on one of them even at max output, I tried swapping around the dew straps but the current didn't show on the same one. I experienced same problems with the replacement UPB, the motor this time spun but very coarsely and was vibrating more than spinning and heated up so I disconnected and never tried again. The problem with the current readings occurred again with the replacement. Overall I was disappointed, mainly because of the focus control incompatibility OPT were quick with their responses and support and they refunded me for the device and the other related items.
Not only does it replace my USB hub, but my Powerpole hub as well, AND my Rigel focus motor controller. Totally great!
