Holiday Shipping Guidelines

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!  The shipping department at OPT is gearing up for a busy holiday season, and we want to make sure we get those presents to your loved ones on time.  Please see below for a few UPS shipping and delivery reminders for Thanksgiving and New Years, and after that, guidelines for Christmas orders and deliveries by UPS.

About USPS Shipments:  The US Postal Service picks up packages at OPT every weekday and on busier days, twice.  However, we highly recommend that you choose a guaranteed service (Express or Priority) during this time of the year.  If you choose a standard USPS service, we cannot in any circumstance guarantee delivery by Christmas.  Also, please note that small “free shipping” items, such as eyepiece storage containers, will ship standard USPS Parcel Mail unless you contact us with alternate instructions.  During checkout you will have the opportunity to add notes to your order, every order is reviewed for special instructions prior to processing.

Thanksgiving & New Years Holiday Shipping Reminders

Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 26th:  No UPS pick-up or delivery.

Friday, November 27th:  Full delivery and pick up services.  No delays caused. 

New Year’s Eve, December 31st:  No UPS Ground, Standard, or 3-Day Select pickup or delivery.  Air & International deliveries only.

New Year’s Day, Wednesday, January 1:  No UPS pick-up or delivery.

Take a look at the UPS shipping map.  Find the corresponding color for your delivery location, and then look below for deadlines to place an order for delivery before Christmas.*

Please make note that while very reliable, both UPS Ground and UPS 3 Day delivery are not guaranteed to arrive within a certain set of days.   Play it safe; upgrade to a guaranteed air service or order early!  Nothing protects against Mother Nature and other incidences that could cause delays.  

Since the 24th falls on a Saturday, shipments need to arrive on the 23rd to be on time.  The list below is a projected arrival time.  Only 2nd Day and Next Day are guaranteed delivery services.

For expedited services to all areas: 

3-Day Select:  Tuesday, December 20th

2nd Day Air:  Wednesday, December 21st

Next Day Air:  Thursday, December 22nd


For ground services:


UPS Ground:  Thursday, December 15th



UPS Ground:  Friday, December 16th


Dark Brown:  

UPS Ground:  Monday, December 19th


Green, Tan, Yellow:  

UPS Ground:  Friday, December 19th

3-Day Select:  Friday, December 19th

2nd Day Air:  Monday, December 22nd

Next Day Air:  Tuesday, December 23rd

*OPT has a reputation for getting orders out the door quickly any time of year, but during the holiday season we go into extra-high gear!  We know how important timely delivery is to our customers; after all, we are all shopping and shipping to our loved ones as well…and usually at the last minute!  Rest assured our shipping department will do whatever we can to get your packages to their destination on time.  However, once the parcels leave our hands, their care transfers to the delivery service you have chosen.  We rarely have a problem with a UPS shipment, but it does happen.  A package gets waylaid due to weather or a clerical error, and suddenly what would have arrived just in time is late.  

To give your packages the best chance of being delivered on time, please order early, and think seriously about upgrading your shipping method to one that is guaranteed to be faster.  Also, double-check the shipping address for accuracy, especially the house or building number.  UPS will most likely catch the error, but you don’t want anything slowing your package down!
