The Celestron 6 inch Schmidt

The Celestron 6 inch Schmidt Cassegrain OTA produces sharp, detailed views of the planets and moon, and it has enough light gathering power to see fainter deep sky objects . I used to have a high quality 5" reflector, and this scope made a very noticeable difference when viewing the rings of Saturn and the cloud bands of Jupiter.

Excellent value

I am very happy with this telescope. After much research, I concluded that the Celestron 6" OTA offered the best bang for the buck. It also fits/works well on an Explore Scientific Twilight 1 mount, without being too heavy to lug around. OPT offered the best overall deal.

Great little scope

I got this to mount on my iOptron miniTower for outreach and just a small portable scope and it really fits the bill. Views of Saturn were great, easily saw the Cassini Division.

Wonderful spotting scope

The C6 SCT OTA is a quality product. Many years ago producing an SCT was said to be prohibitively expensive. I remember fliers circulating in either late 1969 or 1970 announcing the Celestron C8 SCT for I believe $795. This was quite a breakthrough in mass production technology at an affordable price. I purchased this 6 Celestron SCT to be used mainly as a high power spotting scope, a task it performs exceedingly well. This particular unit needed to have its corrector cleaned and while at it, I relined the baffle tubes to reduce stray light to a minimum. Now it excels in powers that other high priced conventional refractor spotting scopes only dream of. Using my binocular viewer the views are superb in the 90x to 360x range- sharp with high contrast and excellent color correction. By the way, for terrestrial spotting I often use a 90 degree correct image diagonal which is superior optically to the 45 degree version. The included dovetail plate has 1/4x20 threads that allow the OTA to be mated with a HEAVY duty tripod. This may be the ultimate spotter if you want a scope that can reach farther than even the most highly touted standard spotting scopes.

Wait well-timed

Our thanks…the teen stargazer welcomed the replacement for his small Meade refractor scope with this gem right before the winter holidays. Thank you to the continued support of the OPT folks. We will need to replace the finderscope with a RA one, but all other components have the teen seeing the Jupiter/Saturn conjunction and the rising of Mars. A great upgrade do well and well-times from the pros at OPT> Thank you again! π’d πpr …the E.Y. of his time
