ZWO ASI 1600 Pro 36mm Narrowband Cooled Monochrome CMOS Camera Kit

The ZWO ASI1600MM Pro is a Micro Four Thirds camera packed with features that help you produce world-class images.

  • Exceptional noise reduction technology and video capabilities.
  • The 1600 Pro is ideal for photographing: Nebulae, galaxies, planets, solar images, lunar images, and more.
  • Can run without external power in normal mode- without cooling or filter wheel in use.
  • USB 3.0 Port allows your camera to run at 14.7 fps at base through its 5 GB bandwidth.
  • USB 2.0 Hub provides attachment to various accessories for better cable management.

The ZWO ASI1600 has a built-in 12-bit ADC but can provide over 12 stops of dynamic range! Which means it can capture a wider tonal range a KAF-8300 sensor. The Camera inherently has a much lower read noise, at a 0 gain setting and will further decrease the higher the gain.

It also includes an upgraded PCB board with 256MB DDR3 memory buffer. Slow data transmission can cause amp-glow around your image, so the DDR memory buffer takes care of that for you.

Most ZWO cooled cameras have a short back focus, making them very adaptable to almost any telescope system. The ZWO ASI 1600 has a back focus of 6.5 mm! Check the ZWO Pro Back Focus Chart for the best configurations.

The ZWO ASI1600 is capable of pushing at a maximum of 40 to 45 degrees below the ambient temperature. The camera itself operates optimally within the temperature range of minus 5 degrees Celsius to minus 45 degrees Celsius and is best stored within the temperature range of minus 20 degrees Celsius to minus 60 degrees Celsius. This powerful cooling system complements the naturally low read noise of the camera to further refine the quality of images produced- aiding ZWO to continue to provide CCD quality at CMOS prices. And that's just one example of how each individual part of this top-notch astronomy camera comes together to produce a genuinely exemplary whole!

The ZWO EFW7 can hold up to seven 1.25-inch mounted or 36 mm unmounted filters. The 36 mm filters are held in place with included set screws and washers.
The EFW7 body is CNC machined from aircraft-grade aluminum and is black anodized. It is sturdy and reliable, yet weighs just 14 ounces and is 20 mm thick! Inside, an NPM stepper motor is used to rotate the carousel in any direction. The EFW7 is powered via USB and includes a cable that can be plugged into the USB 2.0 hub of ZWO cooled cameras.

Switch between each filter to gather colorful variations of light resulting in different vivid images! Every ZWO 1600 Kit comes with a set of LRB filters and a complete set of 7-nanometer narrowband filters (Ha, SII and OIII). Finely polished down to an optical accuracy of one-fourth wave, the filters provide zero apparent optical distortion from the filters. To avoid vignetting, use this kit with optical systems no faster than f/8.

Didn't make proper recomendation

Although I am normally very happy with OPT's service and expertise. In this case I provided all my equipment and what I was attempting to accomplish over the course of several emails and chat sessions and somehow the OPT experts neglected to tell me that the camera power supply isn't included in the package. Now I have a camera I can't cool.

ASI 1600 Purchase

I would have rated this purchase a 5, but I received the product with one cracked filter. I called customer service immediately and explained the problem. The customer service person asked that I send a picture of the filter via email. hey followed up e next day and said a new filter was already sent out. I received the new filter within 3 business days. I couldn't ask for better service.

They work hard to make you happy.

I bought a ZWO ASI1600 kit from them with the EFW, camera and filters. The EFW didn’t work for some reason; no computer would recognize it when you plugged it in to any USB hub. After a chat with OPT and a couple emails with their tech guy (and a ZWO tech guy as well), OPT has me return the EFW to them to take a look at (as their expense) and after seeing it was bad, they fired a new one back to me. Yeah, the whole exchange took a couple weeks but I can’t complain about their effort to fix it and the fact they replaced the bad one with no hassle. My only reason for a 4 instead of a 5 is that I had to contact them a couple times to get updates on the process when I felt like they should have kept me in the loop more; but that’s a minor personal complaint. I will continue to buy from OPT as I have done for many years now.

So far so good

Everything has been great so far. However do your own research about what adapters you might need in your imaging train. The gentleman I spoke with at opt suggested that I buy 2 additional adapters which I did not need. All of the adapters I needed were already included in the package and nothing additional needed to be purchased. That is frustrating considering how much things already cost in this hobby.
