ZWO ASI 1600 Color CMOS Telescope Camera
The ZWO ASI-1600MC Color Astronomy Camera (USB 3.0) is a stunningly high-quality CMOS camera with an incredibly powerful sensor for a CMOS this size. With a 16 megapixel resolution and CCD level clarity at a CMOS level cost, this camera takes affordable imaging to a new level. This immense and sustainable clarity is only refined to a greater level by the amazingly low read noise level of 1.2e-. What that means for you is that there will be very little interference and a very slow rate of gain for that interference. It operates at an FPS of 28, which is incredible for an astronomy camera.
Its resolution is beautiful running at 16 megapixels, it nearly doubles the resolution of the cameras nearly double its cost; blowing its competition utterly out of the water in that area as well. Now, it's true that it only runs at twelve bits per frame- but with the drastically lower than average Noise, this lack of interference allows you to use much more of your potential dynamic range- in effect, allowing higher quality imaging at a lower base bit per frame due to a drastic reduction in noise interference.
All in all, this is a CMOS Sensor using Camera that is highly affordable without any sacrifice in quality- operating at a whole new level compared to other, similar Cameras. Its range of exposure time is insane- ranging from a mere fraction of a second all the way up to just a few minutes over half an hour. What does that mean, exactly? It means that while yes, it can be used for planetary or lunar imaging- it's also fully capable of being utilized for long exposure deep space photography and imaging, as well as just about anything else you'd care to put it to. The technology at play here is leaps and bounds above what's considered standard in CMOS cameras, and it shows; to get the performance of a similar quality elsewhere, you'd have to double the price of this new camera, and in some areas, this camera might still outperform! Usable for a broad range of imaging purposes with great effectiveness, and extremely affordable, you'll find this a solid investment for a beginning in Astro-Photography!
