Product Details

  • Behold the newest focusing innovation from ZWO -- the 5V EAF! It is the upgraded version of the original ZWO EAF that enables accurate and dynamic focus control that is ideal for planetary and deep-sky imaging.

The standard version of the 5V EAF comes with the EAF body, flexible coupling, motor bracket, and a USB2.0 cable.

Compared to the original version, the biggest change for the 5V EAF was the removal of the 12V power supply port. This means that you can now directly connect it to your camera, laptop, or ASIAIR PRO via the USB 2.0 port and cable for both data transmission AND power supply! You cable management will be significantly easier and the supply pressure will be drastically reduced as well.

The intricate pattern that is shown on the side of the 5V EAF is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it is inspired by the changes of Airy disk during focusing and the focusing curve, making it clear at a glance how this focuser works.

    Compatible Software

    • ASCOM
    • INDI
    • ASAIR and ASIStudio
    • USB HID device and drive-free

NOTE: Check out this list from ZWO to see if your focuser is compatible with the ZWO 5V EAF. If your focuser is not on this list, check the mechanical drawing and this guide.

Stay sharp

Works great with ASIAIR to auto focus based on time or temperature, no more fooling with focus masks or eyeballing star size

backordered but still worth it

Good communication from OPT regarding letting me know it was on backorder, and then letting me know when shipped. The focuser works well so far.

Instructions were a bit vague

I had trouble installing the EAF using the instructions provided with the unit. I understand that this item can fit a lot of different scopes and having included instructions for all possible scopes is impossible. A couple of questions posted to a Forum helped me find the information I needed to install the EAF to my scope. Once I found installation instructions installing the EAF was quick and straightforward. I had it installed and working within 30 minutes. If the temperature probe had been sold as part of a bundle it would have been a perfect purchase. I did order the probe at the same time as the EAF and it was packaged by OPT in the same box as the EAF so I at least did not have to have two packages sent.

Works just fine

It works just fine. Plenty of videos out there on how to connect it and set the back spacing. It’s just another ZWO product that I don’t have to think about because it just does it’s job and does it well.
