Are you ready for a whole new concept in viewing possibility? The Vixen Flip Mirror Diagonal attaches to your telescope via a 2ƒ??????????? threaded barrel that accepts 49mm filters. This diagonal has an enhanced aluminum coating for 96% transmission, and incorporates the use of a flip mirror to change between its standard 90??? 1.25ƒ??????????? eyepiece port and the multi-purpose, straight through eyepiece/photography port.

    Questions & Answers

    Ask a Question
    • Are the eyepiece ports 2" or 1.25"?

The eyepiece ports are 1.25" on this flip mirror.

    • 2 questions: 1) How much backfocus does this flip mirror require? 2) When the mirror is in eyepiece mode does it block all the light to the camera so I can shoot a dark?

Thank you for your question. The flip mirror is 119mm long so you will need to take that into account for your imaging train. The light still seeps through the sides when you have it in the eyepiece mode this would not be suitable for taking darks.

    • What kind of filters does this take? In the Quick Overview, it says 49mm filters (not M48? not M42?) Lower down in the full description, it then says: "The straight-through port on the Vixen Flip Mirror Diagonal not only accepts many photo adapters but

The flip mirror itself was not designed to take normal telescope filters and the thread inside the 2" nosepiece is 49mm. If you can locate an M49 camera filter thread to M48 adapter, that may work, but most M49 adapters are wider than 2" and would preven

    • What kind of filters does this take? In the Quick Overview, it says 49mm filters (not M48? not M42?) Lower down in the full description, it then says: "The straight-through port on the Vixen Flip Mirror Diagonal not only accepts many photo adapters but

The M49 thread is the same as that used on the older SLR cameras. It is possible to get a photographic filter step-up ring from M48 to M49. This then allows the standard 2" (M48) astronomical filters to be used.

    • Is the 2" nose piece also removable, if so, what kind of thread does it reveal? Thanks for your time.

Unfortunately, the 2" nosepiece is not removable on the Vixen 2" Flip Mirror. The internal thread on the nosepiece is 49mm.

    • What is the primary construction material of this unit? Is it all aluminum, or part plastic?

The entire housing except for the knob on the side is metal. Only the knob to flip the mirror up or down on the outside is plastic.

    • The straight through photo part is removable revealing 42m threads for T-Ring for cameras, does this include DSLR's like Canon and is this unit compatible with Celestron's f/6.3 reducer/corrector in the imaging train lline up?

You can use this M42 adapter to connect a T ring and DSLR, but this combo is then too long to use with an f/6.3 focal reducer. The f/6.3 reducer has a nominal back focus of 105mm, the DSLR and T ring take up 55mm, and the flip mirror body plus nosepiece

    • What is the length of the body without the straight-through port and the 2" nose piece? Thanks!

The length of the body is just a little bit over 2" in length.

    • Dear, can I take just the central cube and disconnect the tubes? I want to use this cube in an Optical system of Thirlabs. What sort of threads it has? are they SM1 (1.035"-40) ?

Unfortunately you cannot remove the 2" nosepiece as it is a single machined housing with the main body of the flip mirror. You can remove the two output ends to expose male T2 threads (M42x0.75). You would need to add a machined adapter to attach any Th

    • Is this flip mirror usable on a 11" SCT?

Yes, as long as you have a 2" focuser or SCT to 2" adapter on your scope.
