Product Details

  • The Software Bisque TheSky Fusion -Telescope Control Unit:

TheSky Fusion marries the world's single-most capable object-acquisition and imaging software with exquisitely designed hardware to connect, power and integrate your imaging devices.

TheSky Fusion attaches to your mount and simplifies system setup, maintenance, and nightly tasks for maximum productivity. TheSky Fusion's flexible power-output ports can drive even the most complex hardware configurations. Four high-speed USB 3.0 ports and one legacy serial port can meet most communication needs. If not, one of the configurable 5-Volt DC power ports can run a powered USB adaptor so that you can add as many additional USB ports as necessary.

TheSky software supports more imaging devices across more platforms than any other software on the market. With TheSky Fusion you can connect your mount, camera, autoguider, focuser, filter wheel, rotator, and dew heater to TheSky to control them from your tablet, smartphone, laptop, or desktop. Operate using any modern web browser through Wi-Fi or use a remote desktop application (Remote Desktop or VNC). An Ethernet port even permits a hardwired connection for an optimal experience. Though an Internet connection is not required, TheSky Fusion takes full advantage of being on-line when connected to the Web.

Good, but. . .

Once I am able to connect to all my devices, it is generally superb. However, connecting my Astro Physics Mach 1 mount with CP4 controller to the device has been maddeningly flaky. Once TheSkyFusion finally recognizes the mount (for as yet unknown reasons), all other USB devices connect uneventfully, and the user experience is great. It’s basically TheSkyX all over again, using a web browser interface. One very important issue: make very sure you save your images to the Images folder on the virtual desktop. If you choose the wrong folder, like the Admin folder, you will think you are saving your images, but you are not; they appear to be write protected. Also, be aware that as shipped, the power ports on the device are turned off. You need to connect and use the Power Control interface and turn them on. And if you’re used to TheSkyX, you have to remember you are basically using a VNC to the device. Thus, your images reside on the device, like the ASIAir Pro. Also like that device, plugging a USB SSD into TheSkyFusion is a handy way to retrieve your images, but unlike the ASIAir Pro, you need to copy them in the web browser interface from the virtual desktop Images folder to your USB device after minimizing TheSkyX, which otherwise occupies the entire web interface. Other than these issues, the device and the wireless connectivity are excellent. The range of the wireless is remarkable; it is definitely feasible to control the scope from indoors wirelessly using just the WiFi access point of TheSkyFusion. If you have it join your network, even better. Impression so far after just a week or so: great device, more professional in its implementation than the ASIAir Pro, which is also a great device, but with a few shortcomings of its own. TheSkyFusion allows the user to stick with the proven SkyX software, but without cable tangle - as long as it connects to the mount!
