- star tracker
Probably the weakest component of this star tracker is the wedge. I replaced mine with a Williams Optics wedge like many folks on youtube. I also modified it a little by adding a little shim on the tightening screws and it seemed to make it more stable.
Haven't used it yet but am sure it will be awesome.
I contacted SkyWatcher Customer Service and they responded immediately!!! Talked me through the issue (user induced error) and the mount works flawlessly!!! Thumbs up to SkyWatcher. This is an awesome mount
Powered on, but wouldn't track in any mode (the slew buttons wouldn't work either). And yes, I'm aware of how slow celestial tracking is, I have a full size mount I use for astrophotography as well. I was just hoping to find a portable tracker... But, this apparently isn't it. I'm really disappointed in the quality control. How do you not catch a non-functioning tracker before it's packed up for sale?!?!?! OPT's return policy says it's the manufacturer's responsibility to make thing right on a defective item. So, I have contacted SkyWatcher Customer service. Stay tuned.... But, for now, I have a $409 paper weight. Beyond angry!!
The Sky Watcher Star Adventurer 2i Pro Pack is a necessity for beginner astrophotographers and astrophotographers on a budget. It's very easy to set up. The only downside is the app. I needed to download the latest version from Sky Watcher's website in order to connect to the Star Adventurer properly.
There were a few pleasant surprises. First, I thought this mount was on an extended backorder and low and behold it arrived at my door in just a few days. Thanks OPT! Second, setting up and using this mount was very straightforward and easy. It seemed like I was up and tracking in just a few short minutes (I was trying it out in a Michigan late winter night so this means below freezing). Third, I set it up to use with an ASIAir Pro with tracking and dithering turned on and had no issues. In general, I am very happy with the mount and would definitely recommend it to others.
