Supplying the power is one long life lithium battery (included) which is available at most electronics, camera and hardware stores.
The Rigel Systems Pulse Guide Illuminator Reviews
"For guiding on very faint guide stars, I find this gadget invaluable." --- Martin Mobberley in "Astronomical Equipment for Amateurs".
"PulsGuide solves the problem of how to guide on faint stars while keeping the crosshairs bright. I use mine constantly. I prefer a yellow reticule illuminator because I'm sure my eye is focusing it in the same plane as the star." --- Michael Covington, author of "Astrophotography for the Amateur".
"...indeed with PulsGuide I was able to track stars that were virtually at the limit of what I could see in the eyepiece when no reticule illuminaton was present." --- Dennis di Cicco in "Sky and Telescope"
"...fainter stars may be spotted and followed with greater ease...". --- Phillip S. Harrington in "Star Ware"

I tossed mine as well. The knobs (if you can call them that and the casing is really cheap plastic. One knob broke off and the casing cracked inside my transport case. Just not durable at all.

I'm very happy with this product. I have use it for 2 years with no problems. It does take a little effort to change the batteries
This product is of poor construction. The light control knob is so flimsey. I broke the second time I tried it. It is difficult to change the LED's and battery. I threw it away... I kept the eye peice. Buy something eles.
