They are excellent instruments for high magnification planetary and double star work. The Dall-Kirkham Cassegrain with its F/20 focal ratio and smaller central obstruction is perhaps the ultimate high magnification visual planetary telescope. Ordered the scope at f/18 directly from Parallax in June 2013. Arrived in February 2014 and opening the crate I was highly dissatisfied with the overall fit & finish, not to mention the scope would not come into focus. Returned it to Parallax for repair. A month or so latter it returned to me in basically the same condition, except the divots in the OTA caused their rolling machine were filled and painted. Parallax stated that he should really go after the shipper for the scratches and marring on the OTA but never did. The scope was badly out of collimation and showed very soft images. E-mailing Parallax, the only real advice I received was to buy a laser collimator. Long story short, don't waste your money. Fit & finish was fair at best, shoddy craftsmanship for sure. I've had better QC with an off the shelf SCT, and some hardware was big box store quality. Not what I expected for a high priced custom made scope!
