Product Details
The Orion Atlas II EQ-G Equatorial GoTo Mount and Tripod improves upon the venerable Atlas EQ-G by incorporating more than a dozen enhanced features and specifications.
Now with a load capacity of 44-pounds it is perfect for rock-solid support of your optical tubes and imaging trains used by serious astroimagers. At nearly 40-pounds, the equatorial head now sports a large handle to make lifting it onto and off of the tripod much easier.
The Atlas II uses dual stepper motors with belt drives for whisper-quiet slewing, reduced backlash, and improved guiding accuracy. The mount's latitude adjustment has been beefed-up with big bolts that work even with a full telescope load.
The dual width saddle is compatible with both D- and V-style mounting plates.
New features of the drive panel include a USB port for controlling the mount via computer using optional 3rd party software. A SNAP port has been added to allow DSLR camera shutter control with the SynScan controller for astrophotography. The 12V power cable now threads onto the jack for a more secure connection.
The Atlas II's built-in illuminated polar scope works in both Northern and Southern hemispheres and features a graduated clock-face reticle for more accurate polar alignment.
The SynScan hand controller contains a 42,9000-object database and a array of practical features and functions. There is a Tour mode that takes you to the best object each night, permanent periodic error correction (PPEC), pointing accuracy enhancement (PAE), DSLR camera control, slewing limits, parking, ASCOM compatibility, and a USB port for updating firmware.
The heavy-duty tripod is equipped with 2-inch extendable stainless steel legs and a spreader/ accessory tray.
Counterweights: Included with this mount and tripod set-up are two 11.5-pound counterweights.
Manufacturer's Note: The Atlas II EQ-G requires a power supply (sold separately) with an output Voltage of 11 to 16V and an output Current of 4 Amps.
