Product Details

  • The Orion 90mm Apex Maksutov-Cassegrain is both beautifully designed and wonderfully functional -- all in a compact package that you can easily put in your daypack on your next adventure! It is machined with enameled aluminum and precision optical glass, rather than plastic, giving you a sophisticated and old-fashioned look and feel. While the 90mm Apex Maksutov-Cassegrain is small in stature, it has the power, magnification, and light-gathering capability of a traditional telescope that is 5 times its size, all while being competitively priced!

The secret to this Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope's build is the light-folding design that permits large-diameter optics (90mm) to be housed in an unusually small and portable tube. As a spotting telescope, the Apex 90mm gathers more light than typical field telescopes, resulting in brighter and more highly resolved images even in the dimmest night skies. Multi-coatings applied to the curved front lens guarantee the highest possible light transmission.

The Apex 90mm Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope has all of the same performance capabilities as the traditional long-tube 90mm refractors all while being able to outperform smaller refractors on planetary and lunar views, as well as on faint nebulas and star clusters. The long focal length allows for high-power study of Jupiter's cloud belts and Red Spot, along with Saturn's rings. You'll even be able to capture distant terrestrial targets during daytime use. This Apex telescope accepts standard 1.25" telescope eyepieces to vary your magnification options.

And if you're looking for accessories for your new telescope- then look no further! The Apex 90mm comes with a multi-coated 25mm Sirius Plossl telescope eyepiece (1.25") and a 45-degree diagonal that provides a correctly oriented field of view (not flipped). You will also receive the correct-image finder scope (6x20 on Apex 90), taking the hard work out of finding objects. The finder scope is held in a quick-release dovetail bracket for easy assembly and disassembly. Orion will also include a rugged, fully padded carry case to protect your telescope and all of your accessories. It is complete with hand and shoulder straps, along with ample pockets for your accessories.

The Apex 90mm Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope is able to easily pop on and off a telescope mount or camera tripod with the built-in 1/4"-20 adapter plate. It can also double as a high-power telephoto lens for astrophotography too. You can mount a 35mm camera body (with optional T-ring) to the T-threads on the eyepiece holder and you're ready to go! Tripod and mounts are NOT included, but either one can be purchased separately.
