OPT - Complete Cleaning Kit For Telescope Optics

Doc Clay's Cleaning Kit is a collaborative effort between Dr. Clay Sherrod of the Arkansas Sky Observatory (www.arksky.org) and Oceanside Photo & Telescope. The ASO Fine Optics Cleaning System was much-awaited by amateur astronomers who worried about how best to clean their various high-reflectivity, high-transmission coated telescope optics. There are many variations of these coatings on the market today, and the Arkansas Sky Observatory wanted to find one formula and one method of cleaning that would provide excellent, streak-free results on telescope corrector plates, refractor lenses, eyepieces, mirrors and more.
    • 1 Wooster 2 inch Angled Cleaning Brush (soft bristled brush that conforms to the recommendations made by Doc Clay).
    • 200 Count Intrinsics Synthetic Pads
    • 1 spray bottle of Doc Clay's SuperPlus Solution. This is the cleaning solution. It should last you at least 4-5 cleanings.
    • 1 spray bottle of Doc Clay's Rinse Solution. This will last a long time, as it is only used should you need to do a final touch-up after cleaning your telescope.

Why We Can't Ship the Doc Clay Complete Cleaning Kit Everywhere

OPT ships products all over the world, and our international customers frequently request the Doc Clay Cleaning Kit for telescope optics. Unfortunately, one of the liquid ingredients is considered a hazardous material by the US Government (ammonia), and we are not allowed to ship this ingredient out of the United States. The "dry" version - Doc Clay Cleaning Kit - Dry Version - was invented to allow our international customers to purchase all the other aspects of this special Kit. It would also be a good choice for any customer who wishes to mix up their own ingredients. These ingredients are fairly easy to find in most well-stocked drug stores.

    Ask a Question
    • I have the Celestron C6A-XLT OTA, and left the lens cap off one COLD night. Consequently ice developed on the corrector plate, and after it dissipated an dried, water spots were left. Will this kit take care of that problem ?

As long as the water spotting happened recently (within the last month or so) and the included written directions are followed the Doc Clay Kit should be able to clean the corrector plate without an issue.

    • One reviewer makes this statement """This kit is only for lenses and similar optics, such as corrector plates (not mirrors) I use it for the objective of my 5-inch triplet refractor and for eyepieces."""" So the part that concerns me is the NOT MIRRORS

Yes, this can be used for mirrors as well as long as you are careful. On older mirrors, the aluminum can flake off if you clean too vigorously. On another note, never trust the flashlight test. It always makes optics look terrible. It is highly like
