    The RiDK 400 (Riccardi Dall-Kirkham) represents the new reference point for all modified Dall-Kirkham instruments available on the market today. Massimo Riccardi, Chief Optical Designer at Officina Stellare, has the unique experience and creativity required to imagine and build a 400 mm astrograph of superior performance and resulting image quality. The RiDK 400 is a system that delivers a 70 mm fully corrected, flat field and an imaging performance that is diffraction limited across the entire field over a wide spectral range (380 nm to 2000 nm). These outstanding optics are mounted inside a state-of-the art Officina Stellare open truss tube made of aluminum and carbon fiber; the same high quality optical tube assembly used in all Officina Stellare standard open truss-style telescopes the world over.

    The Officina Stellare RiDK 400 is manufactured from start to finish in Italy. The optics are made in the Occhiobello Plant under the strict quality control of Massimo Riccardi, Officina's own optical designer. The mechanics of the telescope were designed by Giovanni Dal Lago, and are engineered, manufactured and assembled at the Thiene plant.

    The OS RiDK 400 is the ultimate astro-imaging telescope for anyone who desires the best equipment when it comes to the imaging of deep sky wonders. It is a beautiful, compact and perfectly manufactured optical instrument, and the long back focus allows the mounting of rotators, cameras, filter wheels, and other imaging accessories.

    The RiDK 400 mm comes with two Losmandy style dovetails mounted on the truss for mounting versatility. Three ventilation fans are part of the design, which helps the telescope reach ambient temperature as quickly as possible.

    Definitely worth the price!

    I'm sure many folks look at these scopes with these monster price tags and ask "who buys this stuff?" Well, I bought this! After years of research comparing and contrasting and saving up for nearly a lifetime I finally did it. I would say that I made the right choice! Certainly the reputation for OS optics is justified. The star images are crisp and round all the way side to side, top to bottom.The workmanship is amazing. It's like a Michelangelo work of art! I decided on the RiDK vs the RC for 2 reasons. Collimation and the need for additional flatteners etc. Folks, this is the easiest collimation I have ever seen on any reflector, and I have had newtonians and RC scopes in the past. Basically it comes pretty well collimated right out of the box. 3 simple collimating screws on the primary had to be tweaked for perfect collimation! I went with all the upgrades including the telescope control system and mirror shutters etc. The most recent version of their telescope control. called OS Bus is a big improvement over the older AT system as there is only 1 cable to connect to the primary and 1 power cord. Much less cable management to deal with. Overall it was not a difficult set up. Technical support may not be quite as forthcoming as you might expect but at this level more than likely you would not be seriously considering this if you did not have reasonable prior experience in astroimaging. Bottom line: superb optics and workmanship. Highly recommended!
