JMI PC Focus Control - DISCONTINUED -

    What is PC Focus Control?

PC Focus Control (PCFC) replaces your focuser hand unit with precise motor control from the USB port of a Personal Computer (PC). You can use the free downloadable JMI Windows-based software or any ASCOM-compatible software. Testing shows that PCFC gives much greater control than a normal hand unit and JMI was able to get 0.0004" drawtube movement. There is no encoder feedback or positional display with PCFC. PC focus control with encoder feedback can be achieved with optional Smart Focus.

    Questions & Answers

    Ask a Question
    • I have an older JMI motor focus for my 12" SCT and I was wondering if this unit, in place of the hand control, would allow for autofocusing using something like FocusMax for Maximdl? I'd hate to replace my entire focuser if this will work for autofoc

The JMI PCFC is ASCOM compliant and so can connect to FocusMax or MaxIm DL. Neither the PCFC or the JMI moto focus have encoders, so there will be no absolute or repeatable positioning and you will have to work a bit to get the step size and movement dura

    • Is an eyepiece included? Does it require any special eyepieces or are standard 1 1/4" eyepieces OK?

We are contacting Lunt to see if any eyepieces are included with this scope. Any high quality, well-coated eyepieces will work well for H-alpha, but many types of lower cost eyepieces under $100 are not well coated for transmission in the deep red part o

    • Is an eyepiece included? Does it require any special eyepieces or are standard 1 1/4" eyepieces OK?

I got in touch with Lunt & this does not include an eyepiece but standard 1.25" eyepieces will work just fine on this.

    • I'm wondering what the advantages and disadvantages are (other than price) of the B600 vs. B400 blocking filters?

According to Lunt, the B600 is better suited for photography due to having a wider sweet spot (yielding more prominence details when the sun is centered) and the B400 is lower cost but intended only for visual use.

    • Will this work with a Meade Zero Image Shift focuser?

Probably. The standard JMI focuser motor controllers work with the Zero Image Shift focuser, so the PC controller should work as well as the motors accept the same input.
