Daystar 80mm Scope / Quark Bundle - Chromosphere Version

This top notch Telescope from Daystar is a stunning combination of quality performance and stellar value. Capable of both solar viewing and night-time use at a high level due to it's design, this is a truly splendid investment. Just insert the Quark in the Diagonal to begin solar viewing, and remove it after nightfall for night time viewing or imaging! This Chromosphere variant is more focused on the surface of the sun in solar viewing than anything else, bringing out more surface details. The QUARK contains a custom Daystar Instruments 4.2X telecentric barlow lens fully optimized in coatings and optical design specifically for the Hydrogen Alpha wavelength. This highly specialized telecentric lens offers superior field flatness. No specific FWHM bandpass is designated. This telescope works very well with a wide range of filters to further increase it's versatility to more and more useful levels, of course. The new, compact design configuration eliminates unnecessary components, weight and associated costs. The device also boasts reduced power consumption, so the Quark can now operate all day off a small, palm-sized optional battery pack. Baffles have been added to increase contrast and AR coatings are optimized for the 656nm wavelength.

Questions & Answers

Ask a Question
  • Do you sell a finder scope to fit the bundled 80 mm quark telescope?

Thanks for your question. The finder we normally recommend would be the Televue Sol-Searcher, be used with most solar scopes for safe solar viewing.

  • This appears to have a dovetail included. Does it work with vixen style mounts?

Yes the Daystar 80mm scope/ Quark comb comes with a vixen size bar on it so it would work on a mount that takes a vixen sized dovetail.

  • I'm trying to decide between this combo or getting the quark and pairing it with the Astro-Tech AT72ED. Is there any more information on this scope in order to compare the photo- imaging quality with the AT72ED?

When using an emission line filter like the Quark, there is no benefit to using an APO lens as you are only looking at one wavelength. The 80mm will deliver better resolution and will likely have a sturdier focuser than the AT72, meaning it will have a s

  • Is this scope suitable for using with a CCD STL 11000? What are the differences between the 4 element 71 II versus 5 elements old version. Thanks

Yes, the new design is still designed to correct a full 43mm image circle, so the STL-11000 sensor will be usable. The optical design in the front elements was changed and the rear elements have a different spacing from the first version, and the version

  • I think there may have been some confusion in my last question. The 80mm scope that is included with this combo, how well is it for nighttime astrophotography? How does it compare to the AT72ED? I plan on using the scope for more than just daytime use and

The included telescope in this package is an achromatic f/6 doublet, so it will have significant false color when used for night sky imaging. That all goes away with an emission line filter for the sun like the Quark, as there is no need for Apo multi-wa

  • I think there may have been some confusion in my last question. The 80mm scope that is included with this combo, how well is it for nighttime astrophotography? How does it compare to the AT72ED? I plan on using the scope for more than just daytime use and

Thank you very much. This combo definitely sounds like a great deal. I have a celestron c/8 with field flattener/focal reducer that I will use for wide field nighttime use and this scope for h/a daytime use.
