Coronado SolarMax II 60 H-Alpha Filter with BF10

Coronado SolarMax II 60 H-Alpha Filter with BF10 and RichView Tuner

The Coronado SolarMax II 60 H-Alpha Filter is part of a series of thermally stable H-alpha filters for installation on the user's telescope. All the filters in this series are thermally stable and mount to the front of of the telescope. They provide very high resolution and give unsurpassed views of the finest of surface details, including plage, flares, filaments, prominences, and granulation when mounted to a good quality telescope.

This SolarMax II 60 comes with a BF-10 blocking filter, a secondary interference filter which mounts at the eyepiece end of the telescope. You cannot use the individual units (either the blocking filter or the front-mounted SolarMax's) separately. The BF10 is mounted inside the body of a 1-1/4" right-angle diagonal. It is optimized to provide a full disc image on telescopes with a focal length of up to 1000mm.

    About the RichView Tuner...

Some events on the Sun, notably active flares and coronal mass ejections (CME's) are extremely fast moving. If such features occur on the disc of the Sun, their high velocity towards the observer results in their wavelength being Doppler-shifted shorter than Ha. If the velocity is high enough, this wavelength could be outside the passband of the filter and the feature would not be observable. The RichView allows the user to de-tune the SolarMax II slightly to bring such phenomena into better visibility. The RichView fits between the SolarMax II and it's adapter plate, sold separately. A simple rotary wheel movement accomplishes the tilt necessary to move the passband of the filter. Because of the filter's position at the front end of the telescope, this does not compromise the performance of the filter nor limit the Ha field of view as is the case with rear-mounted filters.

Below you'll find a list of explanations regarding important accessories that may be required for this product. To add them to your order, just click on the "Accessories" tab and choose the appropriate items.

Coronado is no longer producing these adapters however, Ashley Precision Parts is providing custom adapters for our customers. Please provide the telescope you will be adapting to, the outer diameter and whether you need a slip fit or threaded plate, in the comments section during check out. Questions & Answers

    Ask a Question
    • I have a BF15 blocking filter produced before Coronado was purchased by Meade (used with an original Coronado 40mm Ha filter). Is is possible to purchase a new 60mm Ha filter without a blocking filter for use with my old BF15?

According to Meade, the current version of the SME60 filter has enough tuning range to work for this purpose: https://www.optcorp.com/coronado-solarmax-ii-60mm-etalon-richview-tuner-package.html.
