Used Lunt Solar 50mm Pressure Tuned H-Alpha Telescope - B600 Blocking Filter-SOLD

The excitement of viewing our Star through a dedicated solar telescope is sure to provide many many hours of visual enjoyment and educational insights.

The Lunt LS50THa Solar Telescope, complete with a Pressure Tuner,  provides the basic essentials perfect for a first time introduction to solar observing, while also including the newest technology for fine tuning, allowing basic research of the Sun’s disk and some surface details.

True Doppler Tuning (Pressure Tuning) allows for a shift into and away from the user, adding a 3D-like component to the viewing experience. While it has minimal effect on proms due to their being at the edge of the disk, it does have an effect on filaments and active regions on the surface. While looking at a filament at the center of the Sun the user has the ability to Doppler shift from the base of the filament to the tip, following the filament through it’s structure toward you and away from you, allowing for enhanced visual and imaging capability for the observer as well as a research tool for the avid hobbyist. The pressure tuning system provides an order of magnitude more precision to the tuning of the desired features.

The LS50T is a refractor-based system with a 50mm aperture and an internal-mounted etalon with Pressure Tuner adjustment. This system allows for a <0.75 Angstrom band pass.

Questions & Answers

Ask a Question
  • What is the weight of this scope?

The exact weight of the 20" TPO Truss RC has not yet been given by the manufacturer. It requires a mount capable of more than 60lbs capacity

  • What is the weight of this scope?

I think you meant more than 60kg as the typical RC 20 carbon truss weighs 140 lbs

  • What is the weight of this scope?

    Weight is approx. 10lbs.

  • What is the weight of this scope?

Would this work for imaging with a ZWO ASI 178MM uncooled camera? In other words will it be able to focus on the chip? Thanks!

  • By what means can the scope be attached to a mount / tripod? I have two options: (1) a sturdy camera tripod with a standard attachment screw, (2) a German Equatorial mount from a 40 year old Unitron refractor. I like the second option but I will probabl

H Brian, For your first scenario, the scope has a 1/4-20 thread that will screw into the normal tripod screw. I would need to see the equatorial mount for the Unitron. If you could send me a picture of the mount where the scope would normally attach t

  • What is the length of this scope? Also, are both the tuner and diagonal able to be removed? Looking for a fairly inexpensive case to use for this scope.

This scope is ~14.5" long with the blocking filter installed and ~11.75" long with it removed. The diagonal/blocking filter can be removed, but the tuner cannot (the knob can, but that does not really remove the tuner).

  • Is it possible to do imaging with this small scope? It's a big jump in price from 50mm to 60 mm, both pressure tuned, single stacked.

It is certainly possible to do imaging with this scope, although the 50mm scope will not reach focus with a DSLR, so you will need to use a low profile CCD/CMOS/webcam imager rather than a conventional camera. Monochrome would be best as color cameras lo

  • With the Lunt 50mm scope, can you order the BF1200 blocker,or do you have to use the 400 or 600 blocker.

At the moment, Lunt only offers the 50mm scope with the B400 or B600 blocker. The scope is compatible with the B1200 blocking filter diagonal, but this would need to be purchased separately.

  • How much does this dovetail weigh? Mark

The weight of this dovetail is approximately 1.6 lbs (0.7 kg).

  • Will this scope work with conventional eyepieces, such as Explore Scientific, or are "solar" EPs required?

You will be able to use your 1.25" eyepieces with this telescope without a problem.

  • Does this scope gets focus with a QHY163m?

According to Lunt, there should be no issue using the QHY163 or any other camera with a back focus of 17.5mm or less.

  • Can this scope be mounted on a Celstron Advanced VX?

This scope can be mounted on an Advanced VX mount with a Vixen style dovetail.
