DESCRIPTION

Celestron StarSense AutoAlign

The revolutionary StarSense AutoAlign technology in the award-winning SkyProdigy telescope is now available for almost every Celestron computerized telescope.

Before the Celestron StarSense, using a computerized telescope required a lengthy alignment process of finding and centering at least two bright stars in the telescope's eyepiece. But those days are gone! When you add StarSense to your Celestron computerized telescope, it will automatically align itself, no user input is needed. You don't need to find an alignment star - you don't even need to know which stars are up in the sky! The Celestron StarSense Accessory takes care of all that for you.

StarSense is not only compatible with all of Celestron's current computerized telescope models but is backward compatible with many older models as well.

*Here is a full list, as of January 2017. If you do not see your Celestron Computerized telescope on this list, give us a call and we'll find out if they can hook up:

  • NexStar SE Series
  • NexStar Evolution
  • NexStar GT (with Aux. splitter)
  • CPC, CPC DX
  • CGE Pro
  • CG-5 (with Aux. splitter)
  • Advanced VX
  • Astro Fi
  • CGEM, CGEM DX
  • CGEM II
  • CGE
  • CGX, CGX-L
  • NexStar SLT (with optional Aux. splitter)
  • LCM (with optional Aux. splitter)

Please Note: The NexStar i Series, NexStar GPS, Early generation GoTo mounts (like CompuStar), and the Ultima 2000 are NOT compatible with the StarSense.

How Does the StarSense Work?

The Celestron StarSense Accessory includes a small digital camera that attaches to the telescopes optical tube, along with a specialized hand controller. Just set up the accessory, push the Align button on the hand controller, and StarSense starts capturing and comparing images of the night sky against its internal database of 40,000 celestial objects. In about three minutes, StarSense will gather enough information to triangulate its position and align itself. Then, to start observing, press the Sky Tour button: StarSense will automatically slew to all the best stars, planets, galaxies, and more based on your exact time and location.

Even the most advanced telescope users will love using the affordable Celestron StarSense Accessory. StarSense replaces expensive software used for Advanced Mount Modeling, providing superior pointing accuracy from horizon to horizon. Users can add as many calibration stars as desired to give their telescope mount a new level of accuracy.

Starsense amazing

My purchase of a Celestron Starsense, like other purchases from OPT went smooth, with a fast delivery. Setting up on a Celestron Evolution 8 was simple and fast. Nasty weather here in CT prevented me from using it for a few days, but when I did it was amazing. All I had to do was enter the time, push ALIGN, and in 3 minutes the scope was aligned. I didn’t have to find stars to align on, and then center the scope on them. Just my telling Starsense to align, and I was ready to go in 3 minutes. It checked 3 areas of sky in my urban light polluted sky. In each scan it found about a 100 stars to plate solve. Alignments with an Evolution mount are easier than most mounts, but it’s a breeze with the Starsense. I highly recommend it for any scope it can be used on.

Excellent device - instructions not so much

I have this installed on a C8 on an AVX mount. Once you work out a system to set up, align the sensor, and run the alignment program, the thing is superb. It is fast, once set up, and puts the object in the center of the field. It is easier by far than the Sky Align option on the original system. Issues: Despite the claim, I had to recenter the system on a star at the start of the evening since I removed the Starsense each night. Once that is done and the system realigned, it's great. You might want to keep your finder. I found it handy for a quick, larger field view. FWIW, here's what I have come up with: (1) Align register marks on the mount with the mount roughly polar aligned. (2) Turn on the system. (3) Run Auto Align. (4) Have the mount point at a bright star from the menu. (5) Hit [align] and align on this star. This ensures that the camera and scope are looking at the same thing. (6)Turn off the scope and reboot the system. (7) Align the registration marks on the mount and run Auto Align again. (8) Enjoy finding anything within the reach of your scope. p.s. - Bring your readers - the text is tiny.
