Celestron CGX Computerized German Equatorial Telescope Mount
The Celestron CGX Computerized German Equatorial Telescope Mount is designed to support your telescope for the best experience possible, whether it be for visual observing or astro-imaging. This Celestron CGX Mount is made to be overall easier to use than standard equatorial mounts. It is more compact, more sturdy, easier to assemble and align, and is remote operation-friendly.
The CGX is perfect in versatility for those wanting both portable and observatory setups. With astrophotography systems maxing out at 55 lbs, this mount will track with extreme accuracy. For someone looking to upgrade to a larger OTA, this is a perfect choice.
Heavy Duty Belt Transfer
Many mounts these days use spur gears in transferring rotational motion from the motors to the worm wheels, but with spur gears comes a clear problem: there's an intermittent play between the teeth of the gears. This play, the spacing and correction, introduces mechanical backlash, thus hindering tracking performance when autoguiding especially. With the belt transfer system of this Celestron CGX mount, the aforementioned backlash virtually disappears and tracking accuracy greatly improves.
When it comes to cable management, the less we're fumbling through the wires, the better. Some telescope mounts get caught in their own cables and the cables we add to them, ruining our experience until we get it all untangled--hopefully with no damages to the cables themselves. The CGX avoids this entirely. Each cable connecting the RA and Declination motor to the motor control is wired within the mount for an uncluttered and smooth experience.
On top of it all, the mount itself has a USB 2.0 type connector in the rear, allowing direct connection to a computer without the hand controller.
Mechanical Hard Stops
Another convenient part of this design is the mechanical hard stops, which prevents damages to both you and yoru telescope (in certain instances). Your OTA will be prevented some swinging into the tripod legs or into the mount because of a loose clutch.
For an observatory setting, having homing sensors in a mount is a fantastic addition. If we lose power at any point throughout the night, you can "home" the mount, resyncing it on the home position rather than creating an entirely new pointing model.
The mount can also be parked in such a position after a night of imaging, allowing you to easily turn it on and sync for your next night of activity.
Dual Dovetail Saddle
Got more than one OTA? No problem. Swapping telescopes has never been easier than with the Celestron CGX mount. Compatible for both Vixen and Losmandy style dovetail bars, the saddle on this mount clamps down on both styles with no problem at all.
Additionally, the knobs for the saddle have been improved to allow you to really torque down on a dovetail bar without the use of special tools.
With the completely redesigned tripod, it now has a wider stance to keep it at a lower center of gravity, reducing any vibrations. Each leg contains line-height markings making it easier and faster to set your tripod at the desired height.
With the redesign also comes a new accessory tray. It's been reshaped to remain attached when the tripod folds up, and holds three 1.25" eyepieces, one 2" eyepiece, and one smartphone.
Ergonomic Carry Handles
Want convenience and ease of portability? The Celestron CGX mount is for you. Take a look at the picture above. The attached handles allow ease of breakdown and setup for the astronomer on-the-go. No more awkwardness in moving it around or setting it up.
All New Altitude Adjuster
Many other EQ mounts, including the CGX predecessor, the CGEM, cause difficulties when polar aligning while an OTA is already mounted on it. You could always remove the telescope and align that way for an easier process, but your alignment would also be inaccurate as a result upon reattaching the OTA. Celestron has simplified the process for us by using an armature riding on the ACME threaded rod, allowing us to easily adjust the mount with only one hand under the load.
Celestron PWI Telescope Control Software
Celestron and Planewave Instruments have teamed up to develop a complete planetarium/mount control software. This program unleashes the full pointing accuracy potential of the CGX.
PWI has employed PointXP mount modeling for this model, which accepts a wide array of star alignment points for best possible accuracy. PointXP (also used in StarSense AutoAlign accessory) goes beyond the pointing capability of a traditional hand control in that it adds several star alignment points, and PWI accounts for various alignment errors including instrument flexure.
With a direct USB connection from your PC to the USB port on the mount, PWI’s Sky Viewer display makes for easy target selection or find your favorite deep sky object in PWI’s extensive object database.

All-Star Polar Alignment
Get ready for a night of astroimaging with your mount faster than previously thought possible with All-Star Polar Alignment. This innovative software solves the time-consuming problem of trying to pinpoint the North Celestial Pole.
The new Lithium Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery chemistry has significant advantages over other battery chemistries, great for those Astronomers on the go.
Celestron’s patented StarSense Technology makes it easier than ever to locate objects in the night sky, even if you’ve never used a telescope before. Turn it on and push ‘Align.’ In about three minutes, you’re ready to observe!
WiFi technology encircles the globe in a web of connectivity, knowledge, and information. Now, Celestron is using that same technology to allow stargazers to connect to the night sky and enhance their experience of the cosmos in fun and unique ways.

I had several questions about the equipment that were answered rapidly. All my issues were dealt with. It's a great mount. lot's to learn.
Haven't used it yet. Waiting on clear skies.
Better than expected. Wonderful. Strongly recommend
Great place to shop!
The staff is very knowledgeable. They will give you alternatives and offer advise on different options. I began using the CGX mount the same day I bought it. It doesn’t compare to the CGEM II, which is the previous generation. They fixed all the issues and added badly needed updates. For a few more dollars you can buy something that will last you many years to come.
Great mount works much better and sturdier than cgem
