Celestron 12V 7AH Power Tank

Celestron 12 Volt 7-Amp Hours Power Tank: The Power Tank is not just another 12 Volt power supply! It has all kinds of thoughtful features that will make your observing sessions more pleasurable. First of all, we like the built-in handle and compact size of the Celestron 12V 7AH Power Tank. Hauling a DC battery around can be a real pain, and we can tell that forethought went into its design. It is a 7-Amp hours battery, which should be enough to run most telescopes for quite awhile before recharging is necessary.

This Power Tank has two 12V output cigarette lighter ports. They have a cover built in so that dirt and moisture stay out when the port is not in use. There are three 5mm pin-jack outlets for operating accessories (1 amp max)...a 3V, a 6V, and a 9V. There is a built-in flashlight with a red filter cap. It will come in handy during after-dark set-ups! Add to that an 800,000 candle-power halogen emergency spotlight built into the unit. It is certainly not for star parties, but if you leave the Power Tank in your car or someplace accessible in your home, the bright spotlight could be a lifesaver.

Since this battery is rechargeable, Celestron has also included a 110V AC recharger.A DC power cord is included, meant exclusively for Celestron telescopes. If you plan to use this power source on a Meade scope, you will still need a #607 (or equivalent) DC power cord. Finally, there is a built-in circuit breaker in the unit, and separate on-off switches for the battery and flashlights. We think you'll like the Power Tank!

Ask a Question
  • Can I use this for EQ3 Dual axis motor with HPC?

Unfortunately, no. The HPC runs off of 6V (4x D batteries), and this outputs ~13.4V. The heigher voltage would damage the motors and possibly the hand controller as well.

  • Is there a way to refurbish or recondition the battery in the power tank?

Unfortunately, there is no way to refurbish a Powertank that would not void any remaining warranty and potentially be dangerous. Please contact Celestron if you have any questions.

Kevin, The mount was made in 2014 but we sold it Tuesday.

  • I have had it on charge for over 24 hours (after considerable non-use) and the light is still on; green light 'fully charged' isn't on. What is maximum time needed to fully charge the battery?

Henry, The light on those power tank do tend to stay of even though it's fully charged. I would put it to use, preferably at home, and see if it powers up your scope. I've had the same thing happening on my power tank and it still works fine.
