- power unit
- screw adapter
Second one I've bought, the power plug where it meets the Transformer, somehow pulls away from the transformer resulting in exposing the wires and shorting out. As are most transformers prone to do. C an't someone come-up with a better design?
The CG-5 has a screw adapter for the power cord, but the original power supply did not have the female ring to attach. This 5-amp power does, but it will not screw together. The male base on the mount is too small. I disassembled the base to see if it could be adjusted but it cannot. So, the power cord is still too lose and occasionally disconnects the mount, resulting in loss of alignment. The power unit is okay, just Celestron' s setup is poor.
The product works as advertised. The length is sufficient to work on my Celestron 8" EdgeHD Optical Tube Assembly which sits on top of my Celestron CGEM II mount. I comes with an extension that attaches to the main section. The main section and one end of the extension possesses threaded barrel connectors. I use the extension, inserting the male plug with its threaded locking piece into the power port. Then securing it with threaded barrel connector. Then I insert the male threated plug of the main section into the female plug/port of the extension. You can screw down the threaded barrel connector to prevent it for coming loose if pulled upon and I have also used it simply connected. Threading on to the extension I'm sure prevents power-offs due to inadvertent cable pulls. However in a crowded area with foot traffic that may not be accustomed to numerous cords hanging or lying about, it may be best to leave it simply connected. Example: Public Star Parties, so if it is accidently tripped over it will not pull the scope over or damage it or the plugs. I believe using the extension and providing enough slack on the side where is connects into the power port, will reduce the wear on the wiring near the connector. Back and forth moment or bending can break or wear wiring. I would suggest also wrapping a small piece of electrical where the main section and extension join. Using only enough to prevent the contacts for getting wet from condensation. If you plan do astrophotography now or in the future, I believe it is a must have item if you will image anywhere with a 110v outlet. The cost may appear high, but the product appears well manufactured, and the design seems reliable to me. I used the normal and free shipping which was through the United States Postal Service (USPS) Priority Mail. It arrived ahead of my telescope order, which was placed the same day. The telescope was shipped by United Parcel Service (UPS). The package was very well packed. I recommend this product and this store. OPT customer service has and continues to set the standard for online customer service.
A must if you image anywhere with a 110v outlet.
Unit worked as advertised.
CGM mount is awesome. Very nice solid finish. It will help with my numerous attachments and cameras.
