The 4120EX Color CCD Camera by ATIK:
To date, the Atik 4120EX has the highest resolution of any Atik CCD Camera made. This model features the most current Sony EXview HAD CCD II technology as well as superior Quantum Efficiency, extremely low noise and superb thermal management. Not only is the 4120EX is a perfect match for Hyperstar systems where fast f/2 imaging makes getting quality results easier than ever, but it can also be used with refractors and astrographs that have short focal lengths for gorgeous, wide field views of the heavens.
The high resolution will become obvious when printing images out to A3 poster size or bigger. This also allows for the freedom to zoom into separate portions of an image on a computer screen to view additional details. Due to the 4120EX small pixel size, it is only available as a one shot color camera (OSC). The shorter pixel size is favorable for dutifully documenting the color of the stars and nebulae in the image.
With OSC cameras, you can capture a single image and view the color, while a monochrome camera would require filters and a filter wheel to accomplish the same feat. An Infrared block filter or light pollution filter is all you need to begin surveying the universe's wonders with the ATIK 4120EX. 1.25 inch down to f/2 are fully supported, helping to maintain low costs compared with larger filter types. An additional advantage of an OSC camera is the straightforwardness of image processing. You only need to record color in a single image, not 3 or 4 different image types necessary for LRGB or RGB imaging.
Atik-4 Series cameras are an improvement on the acclaimed 3-Series cameras, with better cooling and a slimmer body. With the help of set point cooling, taking matching dark frames with these cameras is a breeze. Requires only 12V power for operation in the field. Their remarkable sensitivity, excellent cooling, and narrow profile all help make Atik-4 Series cameras ideal for use with contemporary telescopes.
