  • Astronomik Planet IR Pro 807 Filter - 2" Mounted

The Astronomik ProPlanet 807 filter is a good companion to the Astronomik ProPlanet 742 for imaging the moon and planets with telescopes larger then 10" (250mm) when the seeing is poor. This filter is an ideal complement to the planet IR Pro 742 for use with converted DSLR cameras, CCD cameras and Webcams. The effects of seeing are distinctly reduced. It is your entry into previously unknown dimensions of photography of the moon and the planets.

The planet IR Pro 807 only allows infrared light with wavelengths of more than 807nm to pass. In this wavelength range the effects of seeing are significantly lower than in the visible spectrum of the human eye. This allows much sharper images than are usually obtained from your device and location. Another advantage is that the sky background of advanced dawn is dark and even allows photography of planets and moon at daylight.

The Astronomik ProPlanet 807 cuts off the visible part of the spectrum and allows the light of wavelengths longer then 807nm to pass. Due to this behavior the part of the spectrum that is most sensitive to bad seeing is rejected. This approach does a big improvement to the imaging of planets and the moon. The image is more steady than the image in the visible light.

The Astronomik ProPlanet 807 has other uses, too. It is designed to be an addition to the Astronomik ProPlanet 742, if the seeing is extremely bad and a larger telescope is used. For most cameras the exposure times doubles, compared to the Astronomik ProPlanet 742 or imaging in visible light, if the Astronomik ProPlanet 807 is used. It also darkens the background during twilight, allows imaging of bright planets, stars and comets by day and promotes imaging of young stars in dust clouds and stellar nurseries. (If the seeing is not so bad or if the telescope is smaller than 10" (250mm) we recommend the use of the Astronomik Planet IR Pro 742.)

Perfect companion for lunar and planetary photography

I recently purchased a ZWO ASI462MC camera and decided to use it with my new ASTRONOMIK Pro Planet 807 IR pass filter. The 807 filter takes advantage of the 462MC's RGGB sensitivity peaks, allowing it to be used in small diameter telescopes without appreciable loss of brightness and resolution. The transmittance of the 807 filter is just as ASTRONOMIK promises in their brochure. I made tests with an ETX-90 to push the capabilities of the filter in conjunction with the ASI462MC. I made daytime shots to ground targets and was impressed with the efficiency of the IR 807 in attenuating atmospheric effects. In lunar photography (day and night) I was able to obtain images close to the ETX-90's diffraction limit in a 2/5 seeing using a fixed tripod without sidereal tracking. The ASTRONOMIK 807 IR pass filter is my ASI462's best friend and also my best friend too for planetary photography. In a few days I will test this set with my MEADE 10 "SCT to take them to another level of demand.
