Future Optics 12.5mm Illuminated Reticle Eyepiece - 1.25"

Future Optics 12.5mm Plossl Eyepiece with Illuminated Reticle

This Future Optics 12.5mm Illuminated Reticle Eyepiece is just the thing to assist you in polar aligning tasks. It's crossline reticle makes it easy to center a star in the field of view, and if you are drift aligning, you can easily tell if your chosen star has moved and in which direction. Even if you never need to polar align, an illuminated reticle eyepiece can be a very helpful tool. With most "Go To" systems, it is required that you center a bright star in your eyepiece, and it is easy to see that an eyepiece made specifically for this type of job would make it much easier and faster to do...and your alignment will be much more accurate as well. The 1.25" eyepiece used for this product is a 12.5 mm Plossl with a 40??? field of view. The illuminator uses SR-44 batteries, and can have its brightness adjusted by rotating the on/off switch. The eyepiece itself can be focused by twisting the top of the eyepiece left or right.

A must have for accurate go-to

I bought this to attempt some manually guided astrophotography and I'm very happy with it's overall utility. Using this to align my Celestron Nexstar 8SE has greatly improved go-to accuracy; objects are now in the field of view of a 25mm Plossl 90% of the time, compared to about 50% of the time when I would just "eyeball" the alignment stars. The cross hairs are sharp and the dimming switch gives a nice range of useable brightness. The eye relief is decent, I can't view with my eyeglasses on, but I don't have to cram my eye into the eyepiece either, to view the entire field. Apart from go-to alignment and guiding, an eyepiece like this is a must for drift alignment. For the price, I highly recommend this eyepiece to anyone that has a go-to scope and/or EQ mount.
